Oil carrydown? or Drier?
« on: March 07, 2005, 05:20:56 AM »
On flat "sport" fresh sport condition with dry backends, what happens as we bowl? will oil be carried down?  I've heard from tv pba tour the resin balls absorb oil too.  Or will both happen? Will lanes become more oily? or drier? as more games progress?

The lines become drier, and it becomes very difficult (at least for me)  Here are my observations.

Taking my shot from Saturday, I was standing one board left of the right dot (6) and throwing between first and second arrow (7ish)  The ball was just making it back to the pocket, then began hitting the pocket squarely in transition.  I moved left a few boards when the carry stopped.  While I had soaked up all the oil around 7, the shot at 9-11 was still very fresh, and I skidded down the lane like I figured. Instead of the ball holding line like on a THS though, the ball still hooked the same amount of boards on the back and I just watched my ball punch through the nose. In hindsight, I needed to move right, instead of left.

Once you carve out a shot, you need to find a way to stay in it AND carry.  You cannot rely on moving your feet inside, and swinging it out a touch.  If you miss outside, the ball is going outside.  You miss inside, you are nosediving.  I've never ever been able to take my dulled Track Champ, throw up first arrow, and hit the 6-10.  I did it Saturday, and I wasn't the only one.
