Ball Speed Measurement
« on: February 27, 2009, 07:45:43 AM »
On the lane, where is ball speed measured?

Is it measured at the pin deck or in some other location.

The reason I'm asking is I was rolling during lunch today and I noticed my speed on the monitor was reading 20 to 21 consistently.  I was actually shocked that my ball speed was registering that high.

Before I adjusted my drilling, I couldn't get past 15mph.  What a difference the correct fitting and some USBC Silver Level coaching makes I guess.

Anyway, where is the speed measured on the lanes?

At our house, speed is measured just before the pin deck, which I believe is typical.  I've heard that you should add about 3 mph to get the speed "off the hand".

But my question is, when the PBA show is on, and Randy is talking about someone's ball speed or is showing their CATS speed, is that the speed at the pin deck or off the hand?
