bowling ball worth rant...
« on: April 02, 2008, 09:22:43 AM »
Now i understand that bowling balls get retired and they become very difficult to find. Then someone who has one or more of these wants to sell them for something like 300-400-500-even 600. i just dont see how or why one would pay this much for a ball that 1.) prob wont work like it used to on today's lane conditions, 2.) ITS ONLY A BOWLING BALL!!! there are 100 new one's a year almost. 3.) most of the time i see people buying these to drill for tourneys and what not and use on sport patterns...I dont get why? old coverstock and core is not really going to work that well in my mind...yes there are cases where the older stuff works great, but as i said the new balls are made for todays lanes...4.) the seller must really want to keep the ball is they wont sell if for under 300 or some number.

I just think it is crazy to pay over 300 for a bowling ball, but thats just my opinion and i apologize if i offended anyone.

and before someone says oh well if you could get your fav ball NIB blah blah you would, NO i wouldnt i have turned down getting a NIB high rev 3d on 3 occasions because each time the seller wanted to sell it for 300 plus and thats just outragous to me...

SORRY guys, just venting...

Ryan, you are right, of course, as to the technical aspects of old vs. new bowling balls, however something is worth what someone would pay for it. Just look at 30-40 yr old American cars!

Ryan, I got a ball for you...sorry.

I totally agree with you. The prices are insane. I don't agree on the performance side. The best ball in my bag is a 3D High Rev Off-set. It is good because of its ability to be smooth on any pattern and no matter what angle you come in it just blows up the deck. I am even willing to say this about the High Rev when I have 2 cells and an Elite Black label in my bag.
Always be sincere, even when you don't mean it.

at first i didn't think i was a saw head either but thats when i first started trying out lane 1 product i tried everything tho and i just found that their product works best for me and lasts me the longest.

i bought 2 new hammer balls few years back when blade series first came out and after about 30 games on each they had died tried resurfacing and hook again treatment nothing would bring em back.

with my lane 1 stuff i can easily throw the same ball for 100 games before it even starts to show signs of needing a resurfacing, the only ball in their lineup that i probably will have to resurface more then any other is the clear diamond just to keep it crystal clear.

my point is if something is working good for you don't go messing with it, as far as paying 300-400 for a ball only way i could see that is if you knew based on facts that if it is n.i.b that the price and value of it will go up year after year yeah then its worth it.

that's like me i collect video games and video game systems

i have a factory sealed case of original Nintendo systems that i bought back in 93 for 400 bucks and now a factory sealed case sells for over 5 grand i also have games that are worth anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to a thousands for instance my gold copy of the 1990 Nintendo world championships cart that was handed out to the winners of the tournament this game is valued at 10-15 grand and has gone for more in auctions

it just goes to show yeah it may seem like alot of money now for something but 2-5-10 years from now you might be making 10x profit on that 300 investment.

Exactly !

I have a rare sealed cart of Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the Atari 2600. Used it goes for about $150...but this being unopened is worth abit more

Something is only worth what someone will pay !
