I also heard putting your ball in the oven @ high temp and that would help with oil also...

+ 1 dishwasher for home ( no heat dry, and no soap for me ), but my next choice is to just sun bathe them n a hot day

oil just drips out of them, and get a cleaner wipe them off, and rotate them, and your ball is good as new.

I did this will a no mercy, and it too hours to get all the oil out.

another method if you are only doing one or 2 balls is hair dryer, making sure to keep it moving and not to get any one part of the ball too hot.

Also the extreme hot to extreme cold bath method = not good
it is a crack waiting to happen.
Extreme temp changes are what cause a balls cover to split

also I wouldn't do the oven thing, just too unreliable, and too much temp variances between manufactures. Appliance MFg's can be off any where from 25-50 degrees.

once the ball has had the oil removed, you can combat oil absorption by wiping the ball every frame.

Beside using the hot water bath method I use the hair dryer method. Instead of the cardboard box, I use a 5 gallon bucket (the same you use for the hot water method). You can get these at home depot or clean out the paint gallon containers. I cut a hole large enough for the tip of the hair dryer on the lid as well as a small hole size of a dime. The smaller hole will act as an exhust so the bucket will not get too hot.  I will then place the ball in the bucket on top of a masking tape ring (the round cardboard). Close the top with the lid on the bucket. Place the hair dryer through the round opening and turn on the hair dryer high and later low. After a few minutes the bucket will get warm and the hot air will circulate well area the round bucket. You will see the ball bleed out the oil.
