Oil Rings Faaaaar Away
« on: August 13, 2008, 04:08:47 AM »
Alrighty...so last night in league on our THS, I found that my oil rings were REALLY far away from where they normally are.  I usually get the first one or two about an inch or inch.5 away from the bridge and about the same away from my thumb.  Last night, they weren't anywhere NEAR that spot.  I got only a few, like, 4 or 5.  I usually get about 7 or 8 when I can see them all.  I want to say I was just seeing the back few flares, but they were even far away for that.  The bowtie was pretty far away too.  They were like, a good 2-3 inches further left than what they normally are, and the bowtie was also up a bit.  Let's try to draw it.  Pretend it's a round bowling ball, lol

That's about as close as I can get to it using the keyboard.

Any ideas what it could be?

Looks like somehow you've chage your release so that you are spinning the ball now more than rolling it.

You may be coming around the ball more before you release it more than you relize, lowing the pap.

The ye olde spinneritis, eh?  Coming around it more means spin, right?  And going "through" it more means more forward roll?

any chance there is very little oil in the heads and the first couple tracks are not covered with oil.

I have that situation reversed in a way in a house I bowl in....tracks right next to the thumb,,,,,none for a bunch of revolutions, and then sloppy tracks at the back(carrydown).  Nice shot!

Could be a combination of the two: turning the ball early resulting in more tilt and closer PAP PLUS lack of oil. The lack of oil might have unconsciously made you try to turn the ball more to get more hook (Did it seem like the ball wasn't hooking enough or as much as usual???).

Turning the ball early is bad. It means you're trying to help the ball. (I know as I do it too often.) You start turning the ball in the back swing instead of after the thumb exits.

So, Steve,

Any idea, in 20/20 hindsight, how you felt while you were bowling last night?

That's possible about the oil.  Well, our lanes were dressed alright.  There was some carry down (open bowling prior), and starting with my heaviest oiler (Paradigm Passion) b/c I found my other stuff just going straight.  Then by the first game was done, I had to step it down a notch (Dimension), then another notch real quick to the weakest ball I had for the night (Pyro), which seemed to give me the best look.  This ball didn't seem to read the mids like the other two, and I carried ten pins I wasn't otherwise carrying.

In the first game I did notice I was releasing it early.  My sister pointed it out, I said I felt it too.  So I worked on a better release and not muscling as much, and it went quite well.  I threw the ball consistently at my mark. Carry wasn't quite the best until I swithced to the Pyro.  I left probably the most 10 pins I have in ages (6 or 7), and made all but one!  That's an accomplishment for me  That was actually my only open last night, I shot a somewhat hard fought 623.  Very fun night last night.

Thanks for the chime in guys, I appreciate it!

well i get something similar when im deep about 4th arrow cuz i really need the spinner to play inside

when i play down and in, hand stays behind and very high track

When a house bowler misses the mark, misses the break point and strike, for many ppl its called a wallshot. When a pro does that its call adjustment

When a house bowler gets his finger stuck in the ball and fall on the lanes, for many ppl its called lame bowler. When a pro does that its called the Machuga flop! ha i like this one.
