Hernia Operation Update
« on: April 20, 2007, 02:51:18 AM »
I've quite a few people ask, so I thought I'd post an update here.  Forgive any funkiness -- Percoset is very nice!
Had the operation on Wednesday morning.  Had to be there at 6:00AM since I was first out of the chute.  Of course that meant I'd have to wait until 11:00 due to an emergency appendectomy....They whisked me right back to the OR where we talked about country music and how I like Dwight Yoakim and....now I'm in recovery!!  That always amazes me about anesthetic....

I went in for a left inguinal hernia laparoscopic repair with a possible bilateral.  Turns out I had FOUR hernias!!  Felt like a truck ran over me most of Wednesday night, but I managed to get to the bathroom to piddle occassionally.  The pain from the incisions is manageable -- it's the pain down in the boys that really hurts!!  Feels like I have a couple cantaloupes down there!!  The Percoset takes the edge off that pain and makes it possible to get around pretty well.  I'd say that by the weekend I'll be off the drugs and just taking Tylenol.  Doc says no more than 10-20#s for 4-6 weeks then take it easy after that.  I have my follow up on Thursday, so I'll update with any new info then.  Looks like I'll be ready to go for the Gathering, but my bowling and golf games will be complete sh*t!!

Sorry to hear that. I hope you heal quickly.

You now need a Chinese exchange student to mow the lawn so your "hyena" doesn't act up. Some guy who's name sounds like a duck's dork.

Glad to hear the surgery is behind you and you're on the road to recovery.  My father in law had one repaired and he had to be off bowling three weeks.  I would think with four it will take you a little longer.  See you at the gathering.  --  JohnP

Did you get a implant of some kind to patch the hernia?  If so do you know which company (used to work for the market leader in the field)?

Nollster...  That's a standard material for a synthetic mesh product.  You might have had one of my old companies pieces put in...either way it's a whole lot better than the old tissue-to-tissue repairs.  Good luck with the healing...

had a hernia surgery some years ago (mine was in the bellybutton forget what they call it).

Hope you get more time to relax than I did. The afternoon after the surgery my wife tried to burn some trash in the burn barrell and caught our pasture on fire. So there I was, not able to stand up straight putting out her fire.

Not big on pain pills so I never took them. Everything was cool till it came time to sneeze then life was no fun.
