Bowled on the Nationals pattern tonight.
« on: April 05, 2009, 03:54:26 PM »
The local house decided to lay out the nationals pattern tonight on 8 pairs of thei lanes, and charge $2 a game to bowl on them. They have Brunswick Anvil-Lane surfaces that are only a few years old, so there isn't very much friction down lane to begin with. I went in and bowled 6 games total. It was a humbling experience, and also a physical and mental grind bowling on the pattern. I had to be so precise with my speed, how much hand i put into the ball, and most importantly hitting my target. I did manage to bowl over my league average 5 out of the 6 games, and I ended up using my Storm Mighty Shift all six games. I didn't write down my scores, but my low was a 173 and my high was a 258. Overall, i would love to bowl on a challenging pattern like that again.

I bowled on this pattern today also. And it is a grind out spares are you friend and being accurate.  I avg 184 on it nothing big. It made me realize what i need to work on. I also used my mighty shift. I like tougher shots more than regular toss it right and kill the pocket ths.

yeah, i was making almost all my spares, and left a few splits. my overall average was 198. frankly i think the ths shots i've been bowling on are kinda boring. being to wheel the ball out and watching it come back gets old after a while. the house i bowled at tonight is starting a Kegel sport/challenge pattern league next month, and i've already signed up because i want the challenge. Btw, what surface prep/drilling are you using with your Mighty Shift? Mine is drilled 5x3mb with the oob 2000 abralon surface.

Are in Vegas, by any chance? Because when put down 8 pairs, $2/game, and Brunswick surfaces, that reminded me of a center here.

no, this was in Concord, CA. About a half hour east of San Francisco, just to give you an idea of where it is if you didn't know.

How was it a humbling experience when you were over your average 5 of 6 games?

okay, maybe it wasn't a humbling experience for me. i don't know. all i know is i was not able to score the way i do, and play the lanes the way i like to, so i think it humbled me at least a little bit. Also made me realize that maybe i'm not as good as i thought i was and gave me a really good idea of what i needed to work on to become better.

Personally, I think the pattern is easier than most house shots.  When I miss right it doesn't super hook.  When I miss left it hooks instead of leaving a 2-10 or bucket.

Maybe it's just our house shot being 'too easy' that it is hard.

Now the US Open pattern is humbling

My house laid down this shot on 4 lanes.  I practiced on it twice before going to Cashman.  I can tell you it was not the same.  Cashman center was much more difficult.  I averaged 220 on the National's shot at my home center.  I only averaged 190 a Cashman.
A guy bowling next to me said he also went to Vegas and said the shot was not the same. He didn't really tell me what he averaged at Cashman but was averaging around 215 at the home center.  I looked him up and he averaged <180 at Cashman.
