Title: Old school ball returns
Post by: slimeypebble on December 21, 2003, 08:04:44 AM: I got a big problem that I have tried solving for the past year. In that year there is a tournament that happens every month and the lanes are done great. A real bowlers house. Nice amount of oil and clean backends. Well I have a high rev rate and I usually play a 4th or 5th arrow shot. My whole prob is that the lanes have the old ball returns above lane and I can not move over far enough, I kick the ball return or I just bump it. Also this year alot of the tournaments I am going to all have this. What can I do to solve the problem. I have tried to drag my leg (I get off balance) and i have tried to cut hook with less revs and more speed but that is just not working for me right now. Any one have any suggestions, thanks

I guess you've never seen these. You can't do that because the ball return/ball holding section goes all the way from the foul line to the rear of the approach. The ball return is a shallow trough from the pin deck above and between the pair of lanes; it forms a small ramp on the approach side of the foul line, and rises to the level at which the bowler picks up the ball. So there's a wall of balls or rack all the way from the back of the approach to the foul line. There's nothing to stand in front of. (humor part You can stand on top of it but that makes the slide step more of a jump-off-the-ball-return step.

Post by: Rev_O on December 22, 2003, 06:27:56 AM: we have those at my home center, and i can play into the 5th arrow on the right lane with no problem. it just takes some getting used to. I have been bowling there for almost 20yrs now, so i'm very comfortable there.

Post by: 10pin2002 on December 22, 2003, 11:08:23 PM: We have a house like that around here... it's in Lebanon, Ohio. Little twelve-lane place. Those old-school ball returns are cool. I have good success on the right lanes by taking the longest ball I have and throwing it HARD, standing more toward the approach than I normally would. This is the only place where I will actually expect to play the right lane different than the left, simply for the ball returns.
