Struggles with THS
« on: May 16, 2005, 03:35:54 AM »
I've struggled for awhile on the house shot.  There are nights where it can work for me, but for the most part I have to work hard on spares and such to put up decent scores.  Sometimes I am simply unable to find a line that works for me.  I play down and in from the track area and outside for the most part.  I don't yet have the equipment or skill to play deep inside, as I can't bring my ball (a Sling Blade) back.  I can play deep inside and play a nearly straight line to the pocket, but it isn't very dependable.  The problem is my ball going brooklyn on me.  I guess that it may be because I'm a tweener and have difficulty playing outside the oil line sometimes.  A lot of people have told me I need to put more mustard on the ball to try and reduce the hook, but it's never worked for me.  Well, I think the other night I finally figured it out and want to see if I was just lucky or I have finally gotten the info/technique I needed.  I was struggling as usual on a house shot when I started to focus not on throwing the ball hard, but rather on projecting it further down the lane, I aimed for a target beyond the first or second arrow and tried to hit it, and it worked great for me.  Is this what I need to do all the time, concentrate on projecting the ball out further, rather than continually try to adjust left or throw "harder?"  Thanks for the advice, I'm really hoping I finally have something to give me consistency on THS.

That was a good illustration of the problem, and exactly describes the difficulty I've been having.  It's either in the oil too long and not finishing, or breaking too early.

Yes I have found method works great at one center where it is oilier but not as good at a center that is very low oil volume but long!

Ball looses too much energy playing this loopy shot that realllly reallly reallly slows down on the harsh dry!

I have taken balls from successful center and have been weakening their surface with some increase in success but not to my happiness.

One lefty there who finally posted a number that was impressive Insists that Waxxing versus polishing is the key.  To get length and a slower backend!

I have not tried it yet!  Will.  I did use Ebonite Particle polish one day on one of my deadest old particles and had a decent day recently.  Very slow read!

PS I have not tried a 2 X 2 there and am working on it this week from both Columbia website and Nodsinliad and also I am trying a 6 X 4 with pin under middle on a mass bias pearl.  As I have a pin under bridge and mass bias strong on a sledgehammer and that has been good.

Well, it seems to be working out so far.  I bowled my best week in awhile last night with a high game of 224.  (Matched my high at that center, overall high is 253 in a tourney.)  I found that if I concentrate on "sending" the ball further its working out well!  Now I just need my Zone Classic and Big Deal to try it out with stuff other than my Sling Blade.
