Doc's Magic Elixer
« on: December 28, 2003, 07:35:11 PM »
has anyone tried this product? What do you think about it? From what I've read, it's designed to help the ball repel oil from it's surface, or at least slow down how much is being soaked into the ball. Also, are their any pros and cons to using the product?

Hey IEQ! Thanks for the reply. Also, saw your GN movie...nice! I just want to help my ball last as long as possible. After I read about this product, I was like oookaaayy, this might work. Oh yeah, happy belated holidays and stuff.

LMAO IEQ  !!!!  I have thought the very same thing, this stuff smells horrible!! C'mon Doc, can't you borrow some of Storm's ball fragrances?

I, too, use it on all of my bowling balls. My experience is identical to IEQ's. I think if it you use it every 40-50 games and clean your balls after every session, you'll dramatically extend the life of your equipment.

I must say there is something about the smell that is unmistakeable.

Most Brie smells aweful but tastes so good.  The point being that if the stuff works why mess with something when it works.  The smell isn't permanent once applied and even with Storm balls the smell still comes through.

Doc, if it ain't broke don't fix it, right? You are correct, the smell does go away after application. I think that you have a great product, I was really just teasing about the smell.

Once you clean the ball and apply it. The oil those not stick and any oil just wipes off completely and does not get into your ball. No worries of oil seeping into the cover.

Ok, so how about this. Doc, would you see any problems with applying your product to a ball before it's even drilled? I figure prep it before anything, let it set, then drill and put inserts in. Any thoughts about this? Also, would you all do this to EVERY ball in your arsenal? Even if it was a dry condition or spare ball?

Shoutout33 - I have done with with several balls.  I initially tested on coverstocks after throwing them and also with doing prior too.  I also from time to time buy a new ball and apply the Elixir and also buy someones used ball and experiment with a used coverstock that has seen some games.  My opinion is that using the Elixir right off the start is the best way to go, especially if you are using particle balls on heavy oil.  If it is a highly polished resin then you can experiment.

I hope this helps.

I still like to throw a few games first.  That way I'll get a feel for how and how much the ball hooks.  That way I can adjust the surface first so I don't have to worry about sanding off the Elixir first.
