Merry Christmas all!!

I am starting to make some arrangements for the USBC and I remember looking at a bowl.com forum at some time in the past where people posted info about lodging, flights, etc. but I don't see that forum anywhere.  The site mentions something about going through facebook, but I haven't figured it out yet.

Anyone out there have some links to some good discussion of this nature?  Thanks!

Eldorado, Circus-Circus, and Siver Legacy are all close.  Rooms are all reasonalbe and we only sleep there.  For flights, I recommend Southwest.  They allow up to 2 bags of 50 pounds without charging an extra fee.  Book early.

Yea, Bowl.com moved their discussion forums to Facebook. Here you will get plenty of discussion on how much Reno sucks, but not a lot else.  ;D ;D

Personally, I like Reno, but mainly because it's close for me. Yea, I'm selfish like that.  ;D As for where to stay, it depends on how long you are there and if you plan to do anything other than bowl the Open. If you intend to rent a car and stay a few extra days, then by all means do not stay downtown. I recommend the Nugget in Sparks or better yet, the Western Village in Sparks. Either will cost you less(for a better room) than the downtown major hotels, with the exception of the Sands(not a better room, just cheap).

If you are just going to be there to bowl the Open, by all means, stay downtown, it is much more convenient. The Sands will be the least cost, but it is a couple of blocks walk to the stadium.

If your wife is bowling the Women's Open, then you might consider staying at the Peppermill or Atlantis hotels on S. Virgina as the Women's Open will not be downtown near the stadium. Both will have shuttles to the stadium and the convention center and are very nice.

We always stay at Harrah's. Really close to the stadium. IF you gamble at other Harrah's casinos during the year they do a lot of good comps on rooms. Already have ours booked for next June and cost is less than $10 in fees. I normally fly into Reno and did Southwest the last couple years due to the bag rules. Only negative from Dallas is you have to change planes at least once, but I try and do flights where I don't have to actually get off the plane just set and wait for the next round of passengers to board.

Oh, nevermind, you were looking for the discussion forums..  There is a good closed group on Facebook with lots of information and moderated by the bowlers, not USBC..  I believe, off the top of my head, Keith Dumphy is the group admin and it is 2012 USBC Open Championships - Reno, NV

Thanks guys!  Any other good flight ideas are welcome too.  Awful expensive right now flying from Minneapolis.  Doesn't seem to be another close option though.

Agreed here. I live in Sacramento, and depending on when you're scheduling your tournament, you can make it up the hill from Sacramento in a little over 90 minutes (it's only 100 miles). It may be about 20 minutes flying time out of the way, but it gives you more options.

Of course it seems longer.. you're driving up the hill! :) Sacramento is at sea level (okay, 26ft above sea level), and you're going up to Donner Summit, which is about 9000ft up, then back down another 5000. The uphill drive is always going to take longer. But if you time it out right, you'll beat all of the traffic heading up there for the weekend, especially from those making their weekend getaway from the Bay area.
