I got mine yesterday! It's amazing to see all of the new equipment listed! The Tantrum being a pearl should be a big hit! The Arch Rival looks to be stronger than the Rival. It's a great read with all of the tips and mine arrived as usual, no delays in Tennessee. See ya, Bruce

I was under the impression that the Tantrum was a polished solid with pearlessence added only to enhance the look, not to create a true pearl coverstock.

BTM has it listed as a pearl reactive and that's what I was going on! Track says it's MP GEN 2 1000 abralon polished, so I say it's not a pearl just a oops on part of BTM and I guess me as well! Sorry for the bad info, Bruce
P.S. It does have a pearl look to it!

Just took a quick look at some of the numbers in this July issue. I have to say I am getting more and more confused on how they reflect on the ball reaction overall.

The number show the Arch Rival to be an oiler, with 9s on heavy oil, and 7s on medium oil, with a 4000 grit Abralon matte finish, with a ball that is supposed to have more backend than the Rival, which had vitually the same numeric ratings.

- The Teal Buzzsaw with a 1200 grit polished finish gets a length of 10.5 (oiler length), with a low flare core and a "Bleeder" solid resin cover, meant to handle ONLY medium oil? (I expected 13-14.)
- The Psycho gets a total hook rating of 46 (I expected 48 - 50.)
- The Green Vibe, with the same coverstock as the orignal Purple, is rated stronger than the Cherry?
- The BW Venom is rated no different than the BW pearl, in words and in numbers!!
- The new Bash and the Clash solids, with about 2" of flare each, are still rated for medium oil, not light oil/dry lanes??
- The Jazz is reviewed AGAIN???
- The Nkryption COde is rated even more backend than the Code, when the cover and core are stronger (read earlier and rollier) than the original???
- The Break S75 is rated an oiler, polished at 2000 grit (Abralon or US???) and has more backend than the original Break AND handles more oil???

To be perfectly honest, if I had to buy one of these new balls, based solely on their reviews, I don't think I'd know what to do.

I remain confused.

Jeff-
I'm glad you said something about this.  I meant to post something similar a couple months back.  In the Feb. issue they reviewed both the Pluto and BWB.  I will spare posting all the numbers but they had me confused to say the least.  The BWB was reviewed as being "stronger" overall except in the length department.  More backend, more overall hook.  The C/S/T rankings basically say that the BWB is better on heavy and medium oil...rated it higher.

Here is where I start to get baffled.  The numbers they show for their Ball Tracking results show a completely different story.  Both sets of numbers were on their Oily test pattern.  In ALL FIVE categories the Pluto outshined the Widow, and that's for all 3 bowlers.  It created more entry angle, covered more boards on the backend AND total boards, had more hook power, and allowed all 3 bowlers to "open up" the lane more.  These are Digitrax numbers...they show what the ball is actually doing.  Yet the reviewers all rated the BWB as a better ball.  I just don't understand it.

Don,

The Pluto is just not and never was designed to be a heavy oil ball. It's a strong, small flaring solid resin meant for control on medium oil FOR THE AVG rev AND avg ball speed bowler, just like the Saturn, which it replaced.

The BWB is a medium-heavy oil ball, with more overall hook and lots more overall flare than the Pluto. Its trait is more length for a med-hvy oil ball, which makes it a strong medium oil ball FOR THOSE WHO HAVE MORE BALL SPEED AND FEWER REVS!

and never the twain shall meet.

Why BTM seems to be ... in this state, I am not sure. Their numbers AND their words do not seem to indicate what the vast number of average bowlers find, nor what any other review finds, in the 75% case. I do not understand it.

I know if Mr. King comes by and sees this, he'll say he stands by their tests, but I certainly am in a MAJOR quandry over their reviews for the past year, at least. I always felt they were dead on, in about 90% - 95% of their reviews. Now, I feel the number may be 25%.

Are they using professionals now?
Have their oil patterns changed? Or not changed?

I'm not even sure what other questions to ask, that might reflect the apparent changes I am seeing or not seeing.
