Seems I answered my own question . . pt 2
« on: January 15, 2011, 02:12:52 AM »
Ok, so I rabbit trailed myself into another thing, which consequently rabbit trailed me onto part 1, which technically makes it part 2, but in order for this to make sense, I had to flip them.  Had a random thought about 300s and how they pertain to 800s.  Most of the time you think that 300's and 800's go together, as a 300 is automatically a pretty huge boost towards getting an 800.  However, only my last 3 800s have had 300s in them.

That got me onto this: For those with several 300s, which game of the night do they typically come in?  I can only think of one 300 I've had that was in the second game of the set, that game is typically my worst.  My 300's I believe are split right down the middle between first and last games.

So even though I know saying you have honor scores doesn't mean much to other people as far as impressive achievements go (unless those people don't bowl) I still kind of treat them specially.  Just because they don't mean what they once did doesn't mean they're now totally worthless.  I tend to do that with things, if something isn't significantly important or if it's not a significant achievement, it may as well not count.

That's just like, your opinion, man.

I only have one 300.

I got it on the last game of the last night of the season. In a shoot out for first place.

Well like I said, that's why I had part 1 to explain everything.  This is what happens.  I responded to my other topic.  If I say it's no big deal, I'm an elitist jerk, then if I post something about the ones I have, then I'm an elitist jerk FIGJAM-ing them.  You just proved my point for me.  That wasn't the point, I can't even have a poll or pose a question about honor scores without someone looking for a reason to come down on me for it.  That's why I have to preface it with "this isn't a big deal," so I can pose a normal question out of interest.  Either way I'd just rather not have them, because obviously it's a problem either way.  How would you suggest I go about it then?  I posted the topic asking whether or not honor scores should be called honor scores anymore and everybody is like, "oh hell yeah, it's still a big deal, pinnacle of the sport, everybody still goes for them," and then I post something about honor scores using my own as an example for the question I'm asking, and it's a FIGJAM?

I'm not being combative or trying to stick it back to you, I really am curious how you think I should go about it?  To pose questions like this, I kind of have to put some information out there.  The rings I have are all on a keyring buried in my sock drawer.  People ask why I don't wear them or something.  The answer to me is quite obvious.  That's another underlying question to my posts, and kind of a hidden poll in itself.  To judge how people respond and see if their opinions are consistent across the board, because in my experience, the reactions are completely different.  If you have "honor scores," you're just a jerk either way.

Please, Hampster, you sound like a nice guy but get over yourself.  First you want to denigrate the value of a 300 or 800 then you backhandedly FIGJAM yourself talking about your multiple 800s without a 300.  C'mon, Man.

I have 4 300's and they mean something to me.  A ton?  Eh.....    BUT, they mean something.

I'll always value my 1 800 over the 300s.

My first one was in the Louisville Derby tournament, with quite a few watching so there was something special about that, some energy to feed off of.  (Happened in Game 2)

My next 2 came in wednesday night league, 2 in one season, the outsides hook soo much and there is so much free friction big scores are bound to happen. (1st happened in Game 2, 2nd happened last week of bowling in 1st game)

My 4th was when I shot my 800.  I go 214-300-290 for 804.  No one was beating me that night, so thats special.

Now, I do not shoot them as frequently as my game is more based off consistency and keeping clean.  I'm not going to strike with someone averaging 240.

My point:  I think shooting 300 "back in the day" when a legit 200 league avg was GOOD, a 300 meant more.  However, these scores have sentimental value to me personally, but if someone was like "must be walled up" etc I really wouldn't care b/c I can see their point with the frequency of them.  That attitude from others will not diminish what they mean to me b/c i 'm strong enough mentally to not let things bother me, especially trivial ones.  If we're being honest, I think often the alterior motive from the complainers is to bring the person down for some reason, or to have some type of "look at me" moment.

Whenever someone shoots 300, be it on league or in tournament play, I ALWAYS make a point to walk down and shake their hand on their achevement regardless.
