It is worth what someone is willing to pay. List it at $20 bucks and I bet it doesn't go over $130.

If you notice most of the balls he has listed are high in price and he has had them listed on there for a long time now.

Another strike against him is the weight 13.14 will keep a lot of people from bidding. I've bought a lot of bowling balls for dirt cheap on ebay with no other bids because it was 14.15 or 14.14 instead of 15.00 plus.

So like most of his stuff online it will be there for months to come.

This seller is a local pro shop operator in Livonia Mi and ALL his prices are that high. He charged one of my teammates $199 plus tax for an AMF Clutch last summer. Cost on the ball is $91.20....you do the math.

I bought some gear off them years ago because they were rare finds and it was before I was in the pro shop business. Shelved the ball after a few months cause I was throwing it all over the place. Dug it out of the closet after I was working on my own stuff and found that the thumb had 1/8 away instead of 1/8 under.....lol.

The funny part is that they claim that their prices are soooo high because of their expertise....then punch a thumbhole 1/4" off.

Moral of the story is to stay far, far away.

The demand for this ball became so great, it was eventually sold to all levels of bowlers in order to optimize bowling ball reaction on medium to dryer lanes!!!

This is best of it.

It's unfortunate it's 519.99. If it was 515.00 I'd be all over that lol

Keep in mind that kotm works in a pro shop that he does not own. He has the Ebay id that sells the balls, usually, for the pro shop. The owner determines the price, not kotm.

The Tour Offset Hammer was the control ball for Hammer back then (1999). Today, with its polished surface, it might handle medium-light to as much as medium oil.

It was a very good ball back then.

Again, the seller is not, as far a I know, the owner of that shop. He works there and has that ebay userid. He posts the price the owner tells him to post. He charges the price, the owner makes him charge. KOTM has no say in the actual price, as far as I know.

I doubt kotm drilled that ball. I would trust him with any ball I wanted. I would refer any friend to him.

KOTM,

Not knocking at all, just humorous! He should start the bidding at $1 and see where it goes. Just because he thinks its worth $500 to him, doesnt mean the next person will. Maybe theyre only willing to spend $300 or $400 on one those so called rare balls....just a suggestion.

hey all,

"kingofthemill2" is not me.  i do work for the man that sells under that user id.  he does not believe in selling a million common items for a penny apiece.  he has sold other similar odds and ends and the people that are interested in them are pleased enough that he maintains a 100% rating with ebay. he seems happy with his volume, as there are really not that many older balls floating around un-drilled anymore.  it is what it is... if you don''t like the pricing, what is the value in knocking the seller?

Joe,

I forget the ball you had me copy (the ink is a little blurred on the 7 year old drill card, was it your DZ?), but it did have a little more than 3/32 left pitch in the thumb when it was measured.  that is why your red alert and red alert pearl night-flash both had left pitch when they left the shop.  i have not put right lateral in one of your thumbs since 1995...

Regarding Nick, he seemed rather pleased with his ball last i chatted with him.  i hope your team is doing well over at cherry hill.

btw, good luck with your new venture...

ron

Hey Ron,

The DZ Red Alert you drilled for me was fine. Pitches were correct. Mark drilled the Nightflash and he simply missed on the laterals.

As far as Nick goes (we are bowling together at Plaza btw) he has not even brought the Clutch to the center all year. I think when we showed him what the real market pricing on that ball was he was a bit embarrassed. He has bought 5 other balls this year and is bowling his best ever.

As far as knocking a seller on his pricing well the value is in helping other BR users not waste their money. Just because Mark believes in "not selling a million items for a penny apiece" does not mean that these prices are fair. That is why he sits on equipment for years and years at a time and also why his volume is way down from where that shop once was.

I have no issues with you personally. You are a knowledgeable and skilled ball driller. The point of my post was that The Right Approach overcharges for equipment. This is where my comments were directed at...the shop owner. Unfortunately you have loyalty to him since you have been there so long. I understand.

Thanks for the well wishes on our shop. We purchased a vacu jig/ mill drill machine so we are all in now. But, as you well know, one has to have the right tools for the job.

Tony,

i appreciate your position.  i have bought & sold other types of things over ebay (i am a brass instrument guy in a previous life) and i believe that letting the open market decide the price is a good quick way to make everyone happy.  mark (the seller in question), just does not have that mindset.

Jeff,

thanks for the kind words!  the pricing situation where i work is, again, what it is.  i believe in providing the best service & knowledge that my experience can provide.  my job is smiling, happy bowlers & the gentleman that signs the checks does the rest.  it has worked that way since 1987, and i don''t see it changing anytime in the near future.

Joe,

again, and i do not want to turn this into a "shop colusion" discussion, but yes we charge $20 more than you guys for a clutch...  if we are more than $20 higher, why do you feel you need to de-value your services so much?  there are 80 other shops within a half hours drive of both of us, and many of them only compete on price, why is that?  IMO, there are three things that you can define us in our business... speed of service, quality of service, and pricing... and you can only be the best in two of the three and survive, fwiw. /soapbox

cya around,

ron

The better question is why do you guys feel the need to charge $20 more for a ball?

And at $199, you guys are $27 dollars over MSRP. So if I were charging that much, and making over $80 on a ball I would be de-valuing my services?

joe,

i am not going to debate pricing on this forum.  i apologize, i was irked when i see "cannot drill, stay away" when you know that is not true.

i do not think that you are de-valuing yourself when, or if you are selling at any wholesalers "msrp" (Sean's is not the only one).  it is your business, your call. the job is to take care of people, and i believe you do.

ron

Apology accepted. And as I said in my previous post, the comment was not directed at you....ever. It was always about the owner and his philosophies. (whatever they may be)

You are very skilled, it is just a shame your loyalty lies with a guy who prefers to gouge people.

You know what the worst part is. The nerve of this a-hole after creating a starting bid of over $500 to charge $20 in shipping! By the way my very first reactive was a 1996 Hammer 3-d offset and was a piece of garbage and got torn up within a year. This guy is insane. I could get a current Hammer arsenal for one of these balls.
