On my way to Akron....

to bowl the PTQ at Riviera Lanes. I'll post my thoughts and comments on the day later tonight when I get home. Feel free to watch for updates on PBA.com. Wish me luck, and please, don't be TOO harsh.

So what happened out there?  Of course you've read what everyone "speculates" went wrong but in your opinion how was the shot compared to what everyone was saying and what did you learn?  I'm just curious, never bowled on the pattern myself.  But keep your head up!

I wish I had balls big enough to compete in a tournament like this.  I'm still trying to get up enough nerve to shoot in a regional event!  Keep up the good work Steve.

Steve,

I, like you, started my first time on Pattern E at -a bunch (-64 if I remember correctly).  You bounced back a bit better than I did to get to -58.  I finished -101 my first attempt at E.  Props for going out there and keeping your chin up despite the poor start (and despite the fact that nay-sayers and armchair quarterbacks are sitting in the wings blathering about how much better they could do on that shot.  Little do they know...)  Now you can go out to some of those Central Region tournaments and get some experience on the patterns and make next year's PTQ look easy.

So how was life on the edge, once you got out there?  Playing the 1-2 board for 7 games or so is like a 70 frame adrenaline rush...

REV_o - I'm jealous. You got to attempt what I've wanted to do all year. But I KNOW I'd embarrass myself right now.

I think that the fact that you came back from that horrendous hole you dug for yourself says that you got what it takes. Attempting to compete at any level higher than your comfort zone is a series of baby steps. Having immediate success is usually bad news.

I'm spending the next 2 years working on my game, then I'll be old enough to bowl with the seniors. I imagine I'm gonna get creamed there, too - just not quite so bad.

Rev-O    I agree with you, I also bowled the PTQ and had a bad 2nd game 135 but I gave 110% and never gave up and finished +101.

I have bowled on pattern E before and the PBA pattern for the PTQ was a lot tighter than what I expected and caught me off guard a little.
I did stay after and watched the exempt players practice after they re-oiled and I saw a much different look to the lane condition. It was more like the Pattern E that I know, the backends were hooking a lot more that what the PTQ was. the right side of the lane was really open.  I also understand that they have different versions to the PBA patterns as in E1 - E2 - E3. I would say that is what they did different between the 2, they were not the same..

We will both be better prepared next time.
