OK,
I stopped by one of the places i bowl at last nite to pick up the score sheets from last thursday, and there is a classis/scratch league that bowls there. It got started this yr and after a couple weeks it sounded like a good league to join. They do use 4 different oil patterns, shortest is 30ft, longest is 43ft i believe.
Well as i was chatting with a couple of the bowlers i know in the league, i asked if they was on the short pattern, and one of the guys was like " well it shows how much you know about bowling " and i said " well i aint out there bowling so i have no clue, i came in last week and you was playing the same line "
then one of the guys said,,, i doubt this league will be here next yr, and i asked him why he would think that.
He responded with " theres not enough high scores comming out of here " i was like well, " what do you want a cake shot where everyone shoots 700 "
And of course he was like well if you think its so easy why dont u bowl on this league, and i said well i will be here next yr, if the league is around.
anyways, after i was done, i go out grab my stuff and come in and bowl two games on a pair of the lanes, and i shoot 193-208. The lanes went that hard, u just had to make consistent shots. i did shoot at alot of spares too.
I did use my Barbed Wire, which is drilled 5x 4.5, i did notice that my ball used up its energy early, and carry was tough, i left alot of 9pins, 4pins, and flat 10pins.
But my thing was ok, these guys came into this league knowing that theres going to be a different shot every week, which challenges everyone. There is a Avg cap of 860 i think, 4 man teams.
Yet, you have guys complaining that there's not enough high scores comming out of the league to want other people to join. I mean i love bowling in a scratch league.
But the last scratch league that was in the Association failed after a couple yrs, because it was on a nite that had all the big name bowlers, bowling in a mix league with thier wifes, so there was only a couple big name bowlers, and they all joined together and had the best teams, it was 3 man teams.
And the last couple yrs of the league we only had 6 or 8 teams, but 2 or 3 of the teams was always stacked with high rollers, so everyone else was left fighting for all the left overs.
So the league stopped because you couldnt get anyone new interested in the league because, they knew the chance of them winning was slim.
But my thing about the guys on this new league complaining about the scores is,,,, what do you want, everyone to avg 230 or better?
The funny thing is most of the guys on this league do bowl in another league in the association and normally avg high 200's
Its just another showing of how nobody wants to earn any scores, they want everything easy and given to them.
I look at it like its a chance of actually getting better in the sport. Because your going to hafta make better shots, pick up your spares, and just be more consistent.
So when you do get to a easy condition or a tournament you hopefully will shoot alot better.
I myself was hoping to drop to one league, next yr, and i know my avg would drop a lil, but in the end, i would be a better bowler cuz of the tougher conditions.
The other messed up thing is, the guy who got this league started is our association president, and i remember talking to him a yr or so ago about sport shot leagues, and he said there isnt enough guys around here who are interested in bowling on a condition like that.
PANSY's EVERYONE !!!!!!!!!!!!
I will say the prize money in this league is nice! after every third, the first place team gets 200$ the next week, the same team cant win another third, well they can but the team in second place would get the 200$ the roll-offs is bracket formation, so everyone has a chance at winning the league, and first place this yr is going to be around 1500$
