U S NATIONALS IN DALLAS
« on: January 15, 2005, 02:44:31 AM »
Got a chance to watch some of the early action Tuesday morning----nice to see a lot of quality bowling....Did not see Lynda Barnes bowl, but congratualations on your win....Welcome back to Team USA!!

P.S.  I'd be remiss if I didn't give equal time to Diandra Asbaty, who finished 7th ---  I did get to watch her some, and that gal can BOWL ---  She can bowl mixed doubles with me anytime!!!!

I spoke with some people that shot the tournament and they said it was really tough.  Lots of great bowling.  I was there on Sunday and my Sunday league partner had to go to the mandatory meeting at 6 and could not bowl.  Haven't spoken with him yet but last I looked he was around 85th.  I watched some of it but wish I had more time.

Had a blast out there...and shot was tough......though seemed the lefties had a slight advantage out there...(Wasn't very impressed with the Kegel Setup to say the least...)..

Day 1...Long Pattern....42 feet...40 units...not quite flat ...slight top hat look to it.  Attacked from the outside early with dull stuff and couldn't find a consistent reaction.  Moved very deep with a Depth Charge in box condition and ended up -46/52 place after day 1

Day 2...Short Pattern...34 feet...40 units...same pattern shape as long.....1st practice ball...XXL 15 to 5...solid in the 2/4 pocket....wow...start first 2 games 80 under...finally play the twig with a 600 grit Havoc with some speed and about 45 degree release...couple of 7-10's really hurt on good strings...end up the day -54 and the tourney -100/42nd place....take away the -136 I was for the first 2 games of each set and would be in solid shape..

Day 3....Long Pattern again....start off with dull slash as Depth Charge wasn't reacting in practice...220..open in the 10th on a 4-9...move lanes...shot goes away complete...140 game...argh!!..next pair deep inside with Depth Charge...210.....then last 5 games could not find a consist reaction anywhere ....lot of over under for me playing deep and tight...not enough hand to really swing it....and stuck with much too many 2-10's....end up 69th ..(last 3 games trying all sorts of hand positions and such but to know avial...)...

Really enjoyed the opportunity to bowl and looking forward to next year. Found out my biggest weakness is that I really need to perfect a more up the back of the ball release for the heavier oil conditions (as my 80 axis of rotation skids the ball to long in the long pattern...)..also learned that need to have a wide variety of equipment and really need some early aggressive stuff so will have that for next time. But most importantly learned that I could compete with the big boys.  Was at the cut after 17 games....so hope that will drive me to improve more for next year.....
