Opinions about ViseIT
« on: November 30, 2010, 10:29:21 AM »
Hello all.

I have just switched pro shops and the pro shop operator now does not have the turbo switch grip like i have installed in my equipment, but he has the IT.  I switched pro shops because my previous pro shop guy could not make an oval thumb hole for me, and my new one can.  My new pro shop guy has drilled me 5 balls already and the thumb hole on every single one of them are the same, and they are comfortable.  My thumb doesn't swell much, so would it be worth investing in the IT system even tho i don't neceassarily need it?

Billy -

I am going through a similar switch, although I am using the Grip Loc system rather than the Turbo or IT.  I also am very happy with the guy that is now drilling the balls and had only minor problems with the standard slugs.  That being said, I now have two thumb slugs that I have used one for the hotter summer months and one for colder weather right now.

I really like the option of having the two choices.  Might be my own physiology, but there is a definate difference depending on how my thumb is reacting.

My two cents.  Costs some to switch the sleeves over though, so may not be worth it for you.

For me, the big advantage for any interchangeable thumb is when going from ball to ball during a session. It's not too hard to keep up with tape, etc with one thumb hole, but what about ball 2 and ball 3? If you have more than 2-3 balls with you at a tournament, interchangeable thumb is a real plus.

If my thumb wasn't so sensitive to fit changes, I wouldn't use the Vise IT in my equipment, but I feel as though I have to. I would love to save that extra money it costs to have it installed every time. Also, I also understand that there is more core taken out of the ball as well, but I've also read where manufacturers are accounting for that now when they make their cores.

Definitely worth "IT" !!!!!!! "doesn't swell much" get a 2nd slug slightly larger than your normal size and that should cover "IT"!!

my pro-shop guy uses the 2n1 switch grips and i really do like them.  I mean I'm kinda anal about how my thumb hole fits, so this was a perfect option.

and yes my thumb does swell, at the beginning bowling season..  so switching from the smaller thumb hole to the larger one is very nice....

Best investment I have made with my equipment. Definately worth it if you own and bring several balls with you to league/tournaments. I would go for it.

Very valid points, thanks everyone for replying.

At the moment, I'm going through equipment like I go through underwear.  I'm only 18, and I'm starting to learn more and more about cores, coverstocks, layouts, I'm still finding what types of balls I succeed with.  With the 5 balls my new pro shop guy has used, I have only had to put in 1 piece of tape total between all 5 balls.  I just wanted to hear everyone elses perspective on my situation, thanks to all who answered again.

wbltim...how did your proshop guy switch from Griploc to the IT?  did he drill out the griploc sleeve or did he keep it and use it as the IT sleeve just by knocking off the Griploc tabs and sanding it out?  The shop I work at is getting the ITs this month and we currently have alot of Griplocs out there.  I am going to experiment with my friend to convert him over and I think I can use the Griploc sleeve as the IT sleeve and just install the Ball-IT in the ball.  I was wondering how others have done this.  I think a 1 1/4" slug will slide inside the Griploc sleeve easily.

Just looking for some advice guys.

Thanx.

I had major thumb issues until the pro shop guy FINALLY ordered oval thumb grips, made all the difference in the world.

I love the IT, very nice to have, install isn't too bad and having multiple thumbs to choose from as well as the same thumb in each ball is amazing. I have had zero issues with the IT and haven't seen any from anyone that has had them installed properly.

I've been using the Vise ProV II oval sleeves for a few years now. I liked the way they feel.. Was thinking of the IT but don't want to fork out that kinda money to have 5 balls redone at this time. So my new driller and I decided we'd try a thumb MOLD and go from there.. Have to say I'm liking the mold so far.. Been 2 weeks and it feels nice, looking forward to getting the next one done..
