Finger Care
« on: December 23, 2010, 11:54:23 PM »
What are the different ways in which everyone maintains their fingers when bowling a lot?

For the most part my fingers are fine when I bowl a lot, but the side of my middle finger, along the nail, gets really hard and painful...so I was trying to find out some different ways to prevent or deal with situations like this.

I used to have the problem of the skin breaking open along my first joint when I bowled a lot, but soaking my hands in a espson salt solution after bowling has basically ended that problem.

I think Vitamin E oil and Aloe would help both problems.

I also try to avoid using rosin at almost all costs, due to a similar problem with the middle finger cracking at the first joint. I use a clean micro fiber towel instead.

In the winter my fingers & thumb will dry, crack and split open and bleed. from the cold and dryness. So I use neosporin and wrap them with large band aids. By the next time I bowl they a pretty much healed. For me this last Dec. thru feb every year. Does not mater if I bowl 1 league or 4.

I usta have this issue Palm side, right @ the first knuckle of my ring finger would tear open if i was bowling alot....  I would use some liquid vitamin E ( 25,000 IU )  i believe it was...  its thick like syrup and works well....

The other thing I've resorted to using is finger Tape, I started with Vise-grip yellow, then moved to the mint green turbo 2n1..  both work well... my issue is my hands tend to sweat alot.. and when bowling alot the tape would start to peel off or move around..

Now I use the blue Bio-skin and It's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I swear on the bible about this stuff.... i can bowl all day long and it doesnt peel or anything... and its thin enough that I dont have to change the size of my finger tips ( i dont use grips )

If you use grips, you might need to go up one size.....

I have put larger inserts in my stuff and put some of that green turbo tape around my fingers. I think it works great and still give me a clean release.

Ice, ice baby!

It really works wonders and is great at reducing the internal swelling in the joints, tendons, ligaments, and muscles. Dirt cheap, too.

As far as the skin goes, hydration is king. Keep it moist and drink tons of water.
