'Perfect' game?
« on: October 04, 2005, 01:23:38 PM »
I was at the lanes practicing picking off 10's and 7's on first ball, spares on second ball (do this to throw off concetration/throw off my rythem for a better practice session). Guy next to me says he's going to try that next game, goes:
1/ 1/ 1/ 1/ 1/ etc. 110!

Amazing! Anyone seen an occurance similar/as strange as this?

The week after I recorded my highest set, I came back the next week and during practice shot my first dutch 200 in 18 years of bowling. My friends were telling me "now youve done it all". Something like that....

We had a guy at my house tonight go 9/ 9/ for the entire game. Even his bonus throw he knocked down 9. One of the craziest things I've seen!

That is AMAZING if he was able to pick off one or the other only on the first ball each frame. Never seen that one before!

A little off topic, but it's too bad that more don't practice the method that you used. It's very effective at gaining a solid spare game as well as corner pin accuracy.

I'm not exactly sure how much it helps my spare, as its a bit different picking off a pin then picking up a spare. However, you're right, it does help my accuracy out and I personally just like it as a good change of pace (plus more value for your per game dollar).

It was amazing that he picked every 10-7 off, I simply could not believe that he actually did this!

care to elaborate? i see the man of the wrong hand also uses that mathod but again, never seen or heard anybody do that. i'm thinking i'll practice tomorrow, i wanna try something new.

It is a great method to increase your balls per game average (think about it, 2 balls in one frame every frame guaranteed instead of just throwing strikes). It also helps to throw off the rythem of bowling by yourself (makes me actually think instead of just throwing the ball out there, which I do tend to do even if I focus on one specific flaw in my game). It also increases my accuracy at cross lane spares, as you have literally 1/4 board of miss area at the arrows when picking 7's and 1/2 board when picking 10's.

People sometimes look at me like i'm nuts when I shoot 240 one game then shoot 110 the next, but why do I care, I'm there to practice not to show off.

that makes sense. i think i'm gonna try it, since i have the same problem of losing focus and just throwing it.

just curious while we're on the subject, where do you target for corner pins? lately, i've been using a cupped wrist with my plastic ball for all spares, and i've been laying it down around 25 for 10 pins and i havnt figured out how to hit the 7's yet.

21 for 10 pins at the arrows, walking directly at the 10 pin and 24 for 7 pins at the arrows, walking directly towards 7 pins. You don't want to throw too direct at either pin because you lose miss area. I kill a plastic ball at both pins and nearly all other spares I throw (unless I'm dealing with sleepers).

That is very hard to to.
I actually paractice like this fairly often (at least one full game shooting corner pins first ball, and sometimes 10-pin  first ball and 7-pin 2nd ball). What makes the 1/ for ten frames so amazing is that it is so easy to hit the 6-10 or 4-7 when throwing at corner pins. Getting ONLY the corner pin on a full rack every time is a true feat of accuracy (and/or luck!).

We play low ball quite often at practice.  Lowest score i've seen i think was in the 40's.  gutter is a x and if it's on 2nd ball it's a spare.  Guy on the team had seven 1 counts in a row.  that's going back and forth from 7 pin only to 10 pin only.

Umm...wouldn't 1/ on every ball be a 111? Sounds like he missed the fill ball.

nope, its 110, 11 pins a frame, 10 frames, 11 x 10 equals 110

I use to run a Moonlight Scotch Doubles couples running one of the games as what I called a "Leaster"  least amount of pins kncoked down for best or least score.

As UCFKnight300 said 1st ball in gutter was a X and 2nd ball in gutter a spare.

Lots of fun in the dark.
