The honey badger goes pretty straight for me. Also had a couple others throw it, including my PSO who plays deeper than I do. Even on the burn after 5 man. I do throw 14, so that could be it (much lower diff than 15/16 in this ball). But it is my weakest ball for sure. Weaker than the RG Hectic. Not what I was expecting from this ball, but definitely filled a need.
Mind if I ask how it's laid out?
Dang it, I keep putting it off due to money tightness, then I come on here and see everyone talking about it. Shush!!
I didn't go with a "scientific" layout on this one. Pin is above the bridge or ring - don't have it in front of me. MB is kicked right of the thumb a little bit. My PAP is about 5" over and 1/4" up, so the pin is likely in the 5-6" range. Best guess, it is close to a 5x4x3 layout. Or maybe 5/5.5x5x3/3.5.
Now, you might say that is why it is so long and somewhat smooth, but I've had other asymmetrics drilled similarly that handle way more oil and/or hook more. In fact, my code red is drilled even "weaker" and yet it handles more oil, hooks earlier, and is a beast off the spot.
You might also say, well the 14lbs honey badger isn't technically asymmetric, so it should be compared to a similarly drilled symmetric ball. I also have some of those drilled nearly the same. The honey badger is still weaker.
As a side note, I'm starting to realize that every 900 Global poured ball that I've owned - HB being the first actual 900 Global ball - has been relatively smooth. In fact, they give me an almost urethane-like control reaction, but with resin shapes and hitting power. I had the AZO Cheater, Outbreak and Legit when I threw 15. And now I have the Monster Kraken, Lochness and Boogieman. All relatively smooth. Legit and Boogieman have been the most angular, but nowhere near hockey stick.
As I said, I thought the HB would have been stronger, but it's actually more of what I hoped it to be. It's just surpassed that hope a little and is longer and smoother. Still, it fills a need. For me, it is that sought after resin ball for control on the burn. I don't know if it would still have that same control on completely fried lanes, as I have not seen those yet since I got the ball. Like say, 8+ games into a tournament.
I'm really tempted to buy a 2nd one, drill it a little stronger and go with slightly more surface. Just to see the difference. It's a really good ball to have. I just don't see what some others are seeing. Maybe I somehow got a blemished ball. It does hit hard and carry light mixers all day.
