Hard, and aim to hit the 10 pin to knock it into the backstop of the lane and deflect off of it, into the 7.  I almost made it before.

I'm a righty and I aim for the 7 pin hard and straight.  Odd way of doing things but I've come closer that way than by aiming for the 10 pin.

Well theres actually 2 ways. 1) Throw the ball extremely fast and try to bounce the 10 out of the pit. 2) Throw the ball extremely fast and clip the inside edge of the 10 and try to bounce it off the wall back across the deck. Not sure how you'd pick it up from Ernies view, going at the 7.

Ive made it once.....I threw hard at the ten and hit the 10 dead on and it bounced right out of the pit and went over and made the seven....but they do say the way to shoot at it is to shoot at the 7 but I never understood that.

I have made it twice and both times I just threw hard at the 10.  Both times the 10 pin hit the back wall and came back off my ball and shot across and hit the 7.

I've converted this split 3 times, the latest was over the past summer. Here is how I attack the 7-10, and coincidentally all my 10 pins in general.

  • Line up in the left corner to convert the 10-pin over the 5th arrow
  • Release the ball so it "hydroplanes" as much as possible, the aim here is that the ball never gets traction of the lane thus conserving the maximum energy when it hits the pin
  • Hit the 10-pin dead on, smashing it into the back where it can be re-hit by the ball and shot out like a watermellon seed hopefully back on the deck and across to where the 7 is standing

I use this technique all the time to pick up the 10 pin and I can't tell you how often I shoot the pin back onto the deck and often back up the lane towards the foul line. If I left more 7-10's I'm sure I would have many more conversions.

*****NOTE******
The above technique is to be used with a polyester "spare" ball.

I've made it only once...last spring.

After using the "high hard one" technique at the 10 pin for years...I thought I'd shoot at the 7...just for giggles...got the bounce out of the pit...I've stayed with that shot since...like it really makes any difference percentage wise.

One ball in each hand, just make sure they cross over at different points on the lane

I have heard it said that you should shoot the 10 on the right lane and the 7 on the left lane because there is more solid stuff for the pin to bounce off of on the side of the pit away from the ball return.

I saw Voss make it in the final match before the show at the Open last year.  He made it by driving the 10 pin (on the right lane) into the pit.  He specifically said afterward that he thought he had a pretty good chance of making it because the ball was going to hit the pin at a 45 degree angle (assuming that the back of the deck is 0 degrees and the gutter is 90).

Clay, I heard that too. I was told to allways shoot away from the ball return, because for some reason it the pin will bounce more.

I don't remember if it's AMF or Brunswick machines, but the idea is that in one of them the pit slopes towards the ball return, so you try and take advantage of that by bouncing a pin in the same direction.
