I still read everywhere, "I know hit is only the way you throw the ball...etc...BUT THIS BALL just seems to hit when nothing else is". What is it about a certain balls characteristics makes you think it hits harder, or make it seem like it hits harder? Is it because one day you carried the 10 when no one else was? Me personally, the ONLY time I ever see a change in "hit" is when I throw the ball wrong (when it just kind of dumps through the rack leaving something stupid) or when I throw a very good shot and it slams dead flush pocket and kills the rack. I think I say this in this perspective because I KNOW that no reactive/particle/anything not coreless, hits any better then another one. So why is it exactly that you think a ball hits harder?

It's user dependent.  Speed, revs, accuracy, everything.  Also forgot about lane condition.

I think a good way to see the difference is to find a ball that perfectly matches with a pattern, then take a ball in either direction.  Both balls will get you to the pocket, but one will outcarry the other by a pretty big margin.

For instance, last week in league I was throwing my Erase-it.  I was getting to the pocket, but that ball was a little too strong by the middle of the second game.  No matter how deep i moved, I couldn't get the ball to carry, it kept rolling too early.  So I step back and pull out my Thing Returns and I carried the next 4, where the previous shots were either weak 10's, or some other single pin spare.

I was wondering this myself.  A lot of people tell me, your stuff hits weak, my ____ (put preferred company brand here). hits so much harder.  But when we play on the same or adjacent lanes, I don't see a difference in carry.  For some guys, the sound seems to be the measure of "hit".

For me it could hit like a octogerian marshmallow for all I care, just as long as it carries all the pin, its good enough for me.

I personally worry less about how a ball hits and more how it carries.

My original Red Pulse never seemed to hit very hard but it seemed to carry extremely well on a wide variety of conditions.

The hit everyone talks about is a combination of core and cover that allows the ball to release its energy at the proper moment. The most popular balls do this for the widest variety of bowling styles and conditions.

Hit/Carry is directly related to roll correct? If a ball leaves a ringing ten pins, it is because the ball slides just a pinch too long and didn't roll up soon enough. a flat ten is because the ball rolled up a little too soon, and rolls out.

that is why hook set sometimes is a love hate relationship.

I wonder the same thing.  I took notice to the Animal because a guy in my league uses one and when it hit's the pins, there's a loud clap and no pins are left standing!!  Never heard anything like it before.  Of all the balls in my arsenal, my SonicX pearl "hits" the hardest.  My Apoc will obliterate the deck, but the sound the SonicX makes is just sweet!!
