Your opening my eyes here... I'm starting to think cleaning is good, every body else thinks so...

Quick question,

Lets say, you know somebody (me) that hasnt cleaned his balls for a little while, how would be the best way to clean them...

I'd say I clean then every 2-3 months with an 'everyday' cleaner.

Do I need a special deep cleaning solution or something... or just a little bit more elbow grease?

What about the finger inserts?
Is there any danger of doing anything bad to them whilst there in the bucket of water?

i will have to try the bucket thing, idk the baking thing is just something my pro shop guy said to do. i have never had any problems , but everyonce in a wile you here peoples balls cracking because of humidity difference and slight heat difference.

i live up north and in the winter there are lots of people that forget to bring there balls in side and its about 10 degrees and they either take a blow dryer to the ball and warm it up or they throw the chunk of ice, that can't be any good can it lol

im going to try the water bath tonight

Use Doc's Magic Elixir after a good, deep cleansing of any ball and because of its ability to repel oil and keep dirt only on the surface, it makes cleaning a breeze.

After every 15-20gms, I give my ball the water bath treatment.  I take a pail and fill it with hot, hot water mixed with some dish soap and some simple green.  I wait about 20mins and then take a scotch brite pad and lightly rub the surface of the ball. After a few more mins of that, I empty the pail, rinse the ball and repeat the process over again. I do this about 3 or 4 times then dry the ball.  Once dry, I take some diluted simple green (35% SG/65% Water) with a microfibre towel and rub the surface.  I repeat this same process with Neo-tac Nitro Cleaner and another towel.  Once that's done, then comes Doc's Magic Elixir.  I simply follow the instructions on the bottle and Voila!

When I don't deep clean, I just use simple green and neo-tac Nitro to clean the ball after each set.  In between shots, I use a towel to clean any oil or dirt on the ball (most of the time).

" best way to clean your balls":

lighter fluid and brillo pads (the ones not filled with soap, of course).

If using Doc's Elixir will lessen or eliminate the need to do these things then I'm going to have to try it. I just don't ever see myself, for instance, soaking a ball 3-4 times and using scotchbrite each time to clean it (and even then not getting it completely oil-free).  That's just too time-consuming for me!
And I definitely don't ever see myself lugging in a spray bottle of cleaner and using it right after bowling. I have enough trouble lugging in the equipment I have, let alone bringing in anything else! Plus at midnight when my league is over, I only want to get home and into bed as quickly as possible.

When I was younger, I noticed bowlers would towel off their bowling balls before every shot. I even did that for a long time. This is still legal, right? I never see anybody do this anymore, but if it's still legal and also helps prevent oil absorbtion, then I gotta get back into the habit.

RE: the microfibre towels. Are these washable, or do I gotta toss them after a while?
