Need help strengthening a quad muscle
« on: March 21, 2006, 09:34:24 AM »
Five months ago i had a total knee replacement done on my
sliding leg. I am now geting back to bowling and i am having
some problems with soreness in my quad muscle on my sliding
leg. If i rest a few days the soreness almost goes away. But
when i go out to practice a few games the soreness comes back
again. I have been doing all my rehab exersizes from the day
i went home from the hospital and the knee is doing great but
i can't get the pain in my quad muscle to go away.
If anyone has had this problem with a quad muscle and could
give me some advice i would very greatful.

I had the same issue when i had my slide knee scoped out. I found out it was just better to wait till off season and do some lunges and squats along with some stretches. Be careful as some excercise which are benficial for the quads might be somewhat bothersome to the knee. I consulted a physical therapist and also a trainer at a quality gym to get a legit workout that would benefit both effected areas.

5 months after a total knee replacement and the doctor is letting you bowl.  That doesn't sound right.

Very typically it is around 9 months before they even want you to push it.  Even then I would expect that it would take 1 1/2 years before you feel very confident on it.

Go back to your surgeon and ask more questions.
