Over under reaction

What are some ways to conquer an over under reaction? Is a really early solid cover stock the answer? Urethane?

I have been noticing thT lot of new equipment has a lower underlying surface grit and then some sort of polish applied.
My guy here in the Milwaukee area (Bill Monce) who has considerable ball experience is doing just that.
1000 grit and then polish, usually no higher than 2000 and polish
It really seems to help with the over/under

Now last weekend, we were using the Columbia VOW withits polished surface and it was a bit to skid flippy, 2000 by hand and it tamed it right down.

I don't use polish anymore.at most I hit with a 2000 pad and a light compound buff. a more end over end roll helps a bunch too

I was having over under with my Critical Theory (4000+polish) which was expected, but I also had it with my Nightmare (2000) which surprised me. The only thing that had a decent reaction was the Roto Grip Grenade that I borrowed from my dad, but the grip was off so i wasn't throwing it well.

Both surface adjustment, and altering hand positions can help combat an over/under ball reaction.

one more thing, I have been using the powerhouse clean n sheen polish which is on the Hammer arson low flare.
500 grit underlying surface and then clean n sheen
clean n sheen is approx = to a 1000 grit matte polish in this piece
I have used clean n sheen n my Oath with the thought that it would still have some of the qualities of polish to get through the heads and some grit to it to tame the over/under

again though, we are talking about adjusting the finish of your ball

I agree with all the above!

Too little surface, or today's trend too little flare drilling for the ball chosen.

Another as you mentioned too skiddy a surface, maybe a pearl used too early.

Today's top hats if put down with no blend and lots of volume can be tricky as they are so fresh and then morph hard as oil goes everywhere.

PS I think the tip above with lower grits underneath and then finer above with no polish is a great new trend for conquering the new oils and sometimes trick top hats.

I always knock off the factory polish, to me its to over under.. I always hit it 4000, or strip it and 2000 then polish over top to take care of the over/ under reaction

Lower that criticals grit before applying the polish...2000 then polish if not 1000 then polish makes a big difference for me!

Here is what I have picked up about over/under conditions from my house that always seems to have this type of reaction:
1. Solid covers tend to be less over under than pearls since they roll up sooner and aren't as jumpy off the dry boards.
2. Polish tends to accentuate over/under issues. Adding some surface helps get the ball rolling earlier and smooths the overall reaction out but can make a line burn up quicker causing you to move around more.
3. Using Urethane and playing straighter is a great option when lanes are really over/under since the ball has usually already made its turn to the pocket before getting to the end of the pattern where over/under tends to happen.
4. Increasing ball speed can help as long as revs don't go up with it but slower ball speeds will make it worse.
5. Anything that can make you play straighter up the boards will help, swinging the ball in over/under conditions is a sure-fire way to throw a bad set.
6. Over/under can sometimes be a result of where other people are playing the pattern and in these cases, getting your breakpoint away from everyone else can alleviate the problem but sometimes this isn't easily done or puts you in a part of the lane you aren't comfortable with.
