overly picky about my slide
« on: February 18, 2010, 06:35:14 AM »
I used to have a really really long slide and very early timing.. released while still sliding.. I have recently shortened my slide and fixed my timing issue.. after the fix is when this problem started.

I have noticed that if my footing isn't completely perfect it completely throws my game off. I don't see other people complaining or having this problem. Seems they just adapt or just don't notice it.  I have interchangeable shoes but most of the time the changes between soles are just too drastic.  I'm talking minute amounts of slide or stickyness. I actually have all 3 of the different H5 dexter heels for this. Last night it actuall worked out where the tridex was a tad slicker than the flat and it helped me out a ton.

Having this problem is such a pain that I thought about going to a very minimal slide to no slide at all.  I tried it a couple of times and am not sure if I can pull it off. I think it will take a big re-vamp to my game.. and not to mention the potential knee damage..

Any suggestions or tips

try and adjust a heel
heel piece
it allows you tailor your slide by having a removalbe piece of slide sole material on the front of your heel

I use one and its perfect for those places where I cant get the right feel by just switching soles or heels

I use the Dexter red #7 heel with the #8 yellow sole and don't run into problems bowling in most houses I have bowled in. If you use the #8 make sure that the company or pro shop is selling you the yellow leather, not the white #8. I go to the perforated sole if the approaches are slick and this usually solves the problem. Some of us have problems with the Dexter heels more than anything.

I have had the worst time with the heels. So much that the shoes sat on my shelf unused for a year.  Never got the heels right. Finally actually used some polishing powder on the soles to get them slick enough. The Dexter red heel is way too slick for me though. I use the #8 sole. So what is the deal with the new white #8.. its microfiber right.. a lot stickier..???

how does the new #8 compare to the #6 white microfiber ??

Who sells the perforated #8 yellow leather ??

Earlier in the year I was using the 3g''''s with a slide sock and their red leather heel.. theirs is not as slick as the dexters.. but still pretty slick..
I wanted a firmer footing at the line so I gave the Dexters another try one night.. Shot my first 800 that night so I have stuck with the Dexter''''s ever
since..

With the sock and red leather there was never a problem with sticking but I think it was too slick and didn''t allow me to be solid at the line.

maybe I just need to go with the slick sole and heel and work on my balance and footwork.

If you buy on line you can shop prices and free shipping. I think the last order I made was from Bowlingball.com. They carry about all of them. I am not sure about #8 microfiber but I do know #10 is the longest slide that they offer. It is white microfiber also. The #7 perforated leather will stop sooner than the #8 standard leather, but still a nice sole to have. A good knee bend at the end of your approach will go a long ways to help control slide. Just a thought.

I have the #10 felt sole.. way too slick.. I like the #8 sole it is just the heels that are the problem...

the #7 with the red leather heel might be a combo that works..

the #6 is way to sticky..

Based on what you have described, the #7 could help you out if you are close with the red heel and #8 leather. I have used the plain smooth white heel #5 which for me is a lot better that the horseshoe one. I think my choice is still the red leather, because I don't have to worry about the heel grabbing on me at times.

I might give the 3g adjust a heel a try.. I guess it will work on the dexters . just doesn't fit exactly right..

I don't know if you do so already, but you can make subtle slide adjustments by hitting the sole/heel with a wire brush. This is especially true with the Dexter Red Leather heel.

Also....on the slide issue..

I'm picky too and believe I have a large copy of a check at my house from adjusting my slide just before the semifinals of a nice cash tourney started.

Stronger stopping heel, more hook than in practice!

I go even farther in my pickiness.  Forward/backward with my brush on number 10 sole makes it an 11.  Side to side in my mind makes it a 9!

Forward back on my 8 sole makes it a 9.  Side to side on that same sole makes it act like a 7!

It seems to really let one dial in!

Hope that is as helpful for you as it has been for me!

Another adjustment you can try, tighten your shoe laces to get a longer slide, and loosen them to shorten it.

i'm picky about my slide as well. i gave up on dexter bowling shoes as i could never find just the right amount of slide. when i tried a pair of dynorooz( now 3g ) tour ultra's i knew i'd found a great slide. when i found their adjust-a-heel i knew this was what i'd been looking for.

I was just going to try that today.. I find that the brush makes it sticker on some soles and slicker on others..

I would recommend the SLSM Designs Bowlers Slide Sock Premier II.  It is designed for the interchangeable shoes.  It is the only thing like it on the market.  I use one with the waffle heal on my Dynaroos.  Not all slide socks are the same and the Premier II is the Ferrari of slide socks.
