Getting worse, freakin slumps
« on: September 23, 2003, 10:58:07 PM »
Ok ever since September 6th, im getting worse every time i bowl. My form, release, revs, everything seem dangerously incorect and out of order. Hopefully it goes away before Spetember 27th.

I have a pocket size video camera that i can record myself with, but i dont think im going bowling anytime b4 then.

Any tips...

I've been doing the same thing since June, lol, break out of it before you get too far into it.  Talk to Coach Jim, LuckyLefty, and LeftyCrank300 (amazing, two lefties . . ) and you should be able to straighten it all out if your arm cooperates.

HAH!  I don't know ANYBODY now!

Being in adult leagues teaches you many things.

1.  You're not on top anymore, but there are a lot more people that suck worse than you do now.

2.  The myth about the youths having an easier shot is NOT TRUE.  I'd have an entire ring collection if it was.

3.  Drunk adults are a lot funnier than drunk youths.

I would think getting the video camera out and go practice. That should let you see what is wrong. Might be the fastest way to correct your problem. You only have a few days... I doubt the bowling fairy will come see you on such short notice.

Anyway that is what I would do.

GET BACK TO BASICS. Unfortunately, doing this takes extra practice that we don't always want to do, but the only way that I have ever been able to get out of slumps is just to forget about them and go back to the very basics of the game.. It may seem silly at first, but the basics are generally what goes wrong when a slump comes around.

No real tips, but just a quick reply to say.....I feel your pain!

Have just travelled a couple of hours to bowl qualifying for England's biggest singles event (British Open), and promptly stunk the place out!

I knew things might be a struggle, as I have just changed my spans a month ago after starting to get an aching sensation in my right hand due to too long a span, but I had thought that I had worked through that awkward phase after making a change.....but apparently not.

In the space of 8 games qualifying, I missed more single pins through flapping my hand and awkward release than I care to remember, missed the head pin on the right with an aggressively drilled Raging Inferno 3 TIMES IN SUCCESSION!!!, and to top it all off, with 3 games to go, my storm strong arm plus broke and now it wont stay locked!

Just another fun day at the office......

I agree go back to basics and work on the fundamentals.  Part of it may be on the way you practice.  How do you practice?  What do you work on besides knocking pins down?  Some people go out out and throw three games a day and look at their scores and call it practice.  When I practice I go out with a purpose.  Certain days it may be working on timing.  Other days it may be spare conversions or hitting a certain mark.  On occasion I will go out and try new things and play different areas of the lane.  Also you can work on your basics in front of a mirror or sitting on the couch relaxing.  Practicing without going to the center.
