Target
« on: February 09, 2009, 01:22:28 AM »
Who targets where and why.  I personally target @ 40' or the target markers if lanes have them.  This is whether I am playing straight up or swinging the shot.  If I a target shorter, I have a tendency to short arm the ball or drop my shot short.  I have a friend with vision problems who targets like Wes Malott  - basically at his feet/foul line.

Like you, I target around 40'.  For majority of spares, I target just beyond the arrows.  If there's oil (mainly tournaments and sport shot league), I mainly look at the arrows or shortly before (cuts down on the loft and allows the ball to do the work). I don't 'short arm' as you mention, but always make sure I follow thru

I focus on a target at the arrows and keep my eyes locked onto it until the ball passes, therafter checking breakpoint and overall reaction down the lane.

I target my break point, arrows, and where I lay the ball down. Break point on the approach before I start. Then the arrows, I start walking, then the dots where I want to lay the ball down.

Depends on the conditions.  Oily/tight lanes, I will target anywhere from the dots to the arrows to keep the ball on more of a straight line.  If they're more wide open, I'll move my target farther down the lane to help me project the ball to the right.
