Pain in the wrist
« on: March 23, 2005, 07:30:21 AM »
I have recently been battling a bit of tendonitis in my wrist. It used to hurt only after throwing 4-5 games, but now it hurts from the first throw on to the last.  I am going to try cutting back on the number of games I throw in a week, but am also thinking of trying a wrist brace.  If you have any experience with using a brace, I'd like to hear about it.  Specifically which brace you used, how you liked it and what it did for your game.

I reccomend this device.  It is not the least bit restrictive but it does work for pain and added strength.  i love it I can't wear bulky wrist devices because I do a lot of stuff with hand positions and such, this device aids me and doesn't restrict me.  Lots of Pro's swear by it too and it was designed by a Dr. and really does work.

JPR-

Thanks for the info.  I'd seen this product but was skeptical of how well it would work.  It doesn't look like it would add that much support.  I too would like something that isn't very bulky.  Have to give it a try.

well in theory, it should stop you having to tense your wrist as much, as it should hold it in place, therefor it should stop the pain, if it is caused by muscle strain.

worked a treat for me in that I found that i was trying to curl my hand into the ball too much, it made my wrist straighter and not it doesn't hurt

I've been using the Columbia Pro-active for 2 years now and it has eliminated my wrist pain...It was not immediate but slowly as my wrist healed and it prevented further aggravation..If you are really sore you may take a while to heal...Also make sure you are fitted correctly and haven't changed something with a new ball or your driller may have inadvertently missed on an angle that you are not aware of...I like this support because it is nonrestrictive and does not make you sweat or swell up from your circulation being cut off like the others do...Also I believe the rigid wristers eventually make you weak in the wrist by supporting too much and then you can't go to no support without rebuilding your wrist strength...Also makes ten pins a little tougher with the larger wristers that advertise more revs and wrist lock...Hope this helps,Alzgarvin

I bought a wrist brace at the pharmacy to use at work and during the day and had an ebonite magforce wrist wrap during bowling

I use a WristMaster II (3 velcro straps, plus a metal insert in the palm and a support for the back of the hand), and I am very content with it. My problem is a weak wrist, I tend to break it back upon the downswing, killing the hook in the roots.
The WristMaster II is a very nice thing - light, easily adjustable and leaves your fingers totally free. For me, tghis is very important, since I need to "feel" the ball and like to make finger adjustments.

I also have a big Pro Release device, but I do not fare well with these large supports. I get totally lose ball control, feel like a passenger. I do get more revolutions on the ball, though, but I pay for it with inconsistency. So far, the smaller Wristmaster II is way enough for me and my stroker game on any condition.
