Pants!
« on: March 26, 2009, 05:41:57 AM »
So...what pants do you guys wear while bowling?  I've been toying around with the idea of buying a pair JUST for bowling.  What should I get?  I see a lot of pros shooting with slacks on, I've seen some guys shooting with jeans and sweats.  What do you prefer and why?

i only wear 100% cotton dress slacks when i bowl. they must have pleats and cuffs. this type of pants weigh half as much as jeans and they breathe much better.......plus they also look better.

Baggy jeans is a good idea too.  I think I'll pick up a huge pair of jeans and then a pair of slacks for "dress coded tournaments."  Haha, dress codes stink

Pick up some South Pole's. Great jeans, and huge pockets!

One thing I wish about bowling scratch leagues is that is was more like it was in it's prime.  Back when scratch leagues were serious and you actually had matching team uniforms.  This really enforced the team mentality of bowling rather than the everyone for himself and how much bracket money one can make.  We have a few teams that wear a sponsor shirt, but usually one per league if that.  And no, I'm not a big fan of the cheesy old style retro shirts in a league setting night after night either.  Personally I always wear slacks and dry weave shirts because they are so comfortable.  Just a pet peeve, but I don't know why guys insist on dressing like slobs when bowling the better scratch tournaments.

whatever is comfortable, and also depends on if it's league or tournament.

My preference would be to wear lined nylon athletic pants in the winter and shorts in the summer. It's all about comfort and freedom of movement ...

Whatever I have on.

I have 2 pair of jeans that are too tight to bowl in. Other than that, anything.

I have to wear slacks at tournaments, and I actually prefer them, but the preference is so minimal that I really just wear anything.

yes northface28, sharp dressed men still wear pleated dress slacks. these are the same kind of  men who wear a suit or a jacket and tie to weddings and funerals. sadly, males in this day and age fail to dress themselves appropriately a majority of the time.

In Germany, sanctioned league and tournament play affords some trousers etiquette, even though the results are somewhat weird: you are to wear some "dark and long" pants "without external pockets" - with the results that some players wear slacks or golf trousers, and other (including me ) training/workout trousers that fit into the regulation's text. Background is that e. g. blue jeans or cargo pants are to be "banned", but with dubious success.

Therefore, I have a pair of long polyester training trousers which I wear in training and in serious play. As a weird side note, I had to find out how much bad fitting trousers hamper your game last fall when I took my warmer winter trousers again and wondered why I lacked consistency in my release: the crotch had become too tight (I started cycling and my legs had become thicker), and this limited my trailing leg's moving room. Since then I have been using XXXL pants! Looks a bit weird and it is definitively too large at the hip and a tad too long, but the freedom of movement is worth the effort

I always wear a pair of Khaki shorts unless there are rules against shorts.  I stay much more comfortable during bowling wearing shorts.  Plus, in the winter, it also avoids the possability of the bag of my jeans dragging in snow or water and then getting on the approaches.

I'm a jeans and t-shirt guy too. My team all pitched in and got matching polos with names on the front and designs on the back, which look pretty cool. I think next season we'll do the mock neck shirts. But everyone does their own thing with the pants. 4 out of 5, including me, wear jeans or shorts if the weather's nice. Our 230 avg anchor bowler only rolls in sweats, lol. At first he wasn't a fan of the polo shirts cause he'd rather wear a raggedy old shirt. But we wanted to look somewhat like a real team.

I've thought about trying slacks for the breathable, comfortable, lighter fit. But I can wear jeans and a t-shirt every day to work, so it makes me lazy to change before league, lol.

So only on serious tournaments with dress codes do I wear slacks. One of these days I'll try it during normal league.
