Top Weight - Explanation of it?
« on: May 06, 2005, 04:26:34 AM »
Hi everyone, just wanted to see if anyone could give me a bare bones explanation of Top Weight.

Through the knowledge of my pro-shop driller, I've learned alot about the dynamics of a bowling ball in the past year, but I don't recall chatting about Top-Weight.

Can you guys give me the Pros & Cons of having..

A. More Top Weight (Over 3oz.)
B. In between Top Weight (3-2 oz.)
B. Less Top Weight (Under 2oz.)

This is considering that the ball is undrilled.
I am thinking of buying a ball for medium-dry conditions and I am not sure how much top weight it should have before drilling.

Thanks!

High top weight balls are by nature more dynamic.

They skid longer than they would if the same ball with lower top weight.
Therefore retain more energy and do hook more than similar model and pin out and same drilled versions of the same ball.

They also are not quite as controllable and smooth.
