What's a good particle ball to get the ball to read early on a heavy oil condition, so the ball will set early and still make an agressive roll on the backend?
I was thinking maybe an old BVP Wizard, or a BVP Mammoth, or maybe the new Sidewinder?

Semi-high speed (16-17 mph)

For a game based on the principles of science and math, bowling sure does have a bad habit of being illogical.

I've heard nothing but greatness about the Visionary Ogre Particle.

Of the 3 you've listed the BVP Mammoth is the only heavy oil particle ball.
The Wizard is just a solid reactive and the Sidewinder is a light particle load
hybrid.
The Visionary Ogre Particle is probably worth checking out as well, but you may not be able to find them locally. Visionary also has a Particle AMB Centaur that is definitely a true heavy oil particle ball.

Go with the Mammoth. The ball is a beast on heavy oil.

Don't know where you are rockerbowler18. Visioanry products are available just about everywhere and just like 900Global you may have to ask your driller to order one for you.
Visionary Ogre Particle in OOB is early rolling, even arc. See Britton's video. http://www.videoballreviews.com/ogreparticle.html That should give you a decent idea of it's shape and abilities.

any good pro shop owner will be glad to call up the manufacturer and order it for you. they dont need to carry the brand.
heck most pro shops dont even have a large stock of balls. usually just the latest big hooker. I know my guy constantly pushes the track uprising. but he has good reason always push balls... it IS a business to make money.
definitely your best bets are the mammoth and ogre particle. I personally would go with the ogre particle but thats just me.

...but never underestimate the traction you get from a particle piece. I just got me a NIB New Standard 2 for similar purposes as rockbowler18 (found it cheap on ebay with good specs for waht i had in mind with it), drilled it label with a strong pin position, and this baby is a VERY good heavy oil option - and the high particle load provides a very good and even resad on the lane while I can keep the ball surface at OOB, so that it even gets through heads that are not soupy anymore.
Go particle!
