Particle Balls
« on: August 09, 2004, 09:18:49 PM »
I finally bought a hardly used particle ball (Morich Onslaught - gave $40 from a bowling partner and had it plugged).  I've always been a resin bowler.  Heck, I've always been a pearl ball user as well!  Since returning, I've purchase a couple solid resin balls and really like them.  This is my first particle ball.  I must admit after throwing 7 games I like it very much.  However it seems as though I can get the same results (similar shot) using either a pearl reactive or modified (cover) solid resin.

Forgive my ignorance, please explain the benefits using particle over resin besides oily lanes.  Given a resin with correct drill and cover, shouldn't it be able to "react" like a particle?  I've also read particle balls track very quickly.  Not sure about the longevity of a particle pearl, but are particle balls less suspect to "overreact" with changling lane conditions rather than their resin counterparts?

I'm by no means an expert on particle balls, but from what I heard, particles experience less over/under. They also tend to grab the lane more when there's oil compared to reactives, so there's less of a skid/snap reaction.

Particle balls tend to expend energy both earlier and more even until roll-out has occured. They can be very beneficial on wet/dry shots and heavier oil where some resins can over/under. Matching cover strength with drill pattern to the corresponding oil volume is the key with particles. This is why many people don't understand particles and tend to use them on the wrong conditions.
