Particle coverstocks
« on: January 14, 2013, 08:06:03 PM »
I'd imagine this has been a topic of conversation but I figure I'd ask anyway. Why have bowling manufacturers gone away from creating balls with particle coverstocks in recent years? Is it because of ball longevity, what they did to the lane surface, not give a popular ball motion to that of a conventional reactive shell, or all of the above? The only particle shell currently on the market that I can think of is the Lord Field Higgs Force.

I used that term because bowlers who use those types of balls, then blame the poor reaction, rarely throw it on the volumes of oil that it was designed for.  If there's a guy in your league killing it with a Vibe or 15 year old resin ball and you're trying to throw an OOB Lucid, Nano, 912T and getting poor reaction, rarely does it come down to "I made a poor ball choice".  Instead it's, "Wow these companies are sneaking in 'particle' without us knowing.  Ballreviews....what do you guys think about this?"

What ever happened to buying a reaction, then being patient enough to use it on the condition that it was meant for?  Bowling is very simple is you make it simple.  I just don't understand why all of a sudden "I can't have any particle in my equipment or it's a P.O.S." mentality.

Remember when we were in school,..... and particle was all the rage? (Dating myself) Raging infernos, Total Anialations, Power Drives, Epic Quests, RS-P's, Apex Obessions and Adrenalines and so forth, ...when playing the lanes straighter and the way they were supposed to be played,... breaking the condition down as a team,..... when oil was actually on the lanes,.... yea...... that doesnt exist anymore. Lol!

If it doesnt cover 39 boards and flip on the backend (while secretly popping corners), it doesnt get bought. Particles dont do that. You didnt know, DP3, covering boards is about as manly as beer and hot wings on football sunday. Ask Parker Bohn the 3rd and Walter Ray and Norm Duke! That up the boards style will never win anything! Oh wait..........(shuffles paperwork), you mean they've won over 120 titles between the three of them???? Thats gotta be a typo

Its really simple, buy reaction shapes, not this is my "heavy oil' ball. Im willing to bet particles are in a lot of balls we use today. If youre familiar with shot shapes, you can tell which ones do.

I've believed particles are in a bunch of balls today.  The companies just don't advertise it.

Naturally on the left with our more persistant head oil they can still really fit.

I often still use an old trusty ICON 2 circa 2000 or so, oh yeah they die in two years!  Some two handers I bowl still hate this ball!

Right...never a sand paper has touched, just abralon or scuff pad!

I still throw a track Freak and Hammer Razor Blade, both were particles of some type. They still react well on medium light to medium heavy. The key for me is lightly scuffing them after every set.
