Mike,no problem the interview covers 4 pages
but this is an abbreviated version dealing
with the question asked hope its O.K.
When Pat Healey Jr. win his first professional
title, his wife, Tereas, watched every frame. At
the time, she was in Latvia as a competitor in
the AMF World Cup, but because of the magic of the
Internet - and Rob Glaser's RealOne "streaming
Video" - she was able to watch every ball of Healey's
win in the PBA Greater Kansas City Classic.
"That was so cool," said Teresa. "My friends and I were
all in the hotel watching the computer, and we were all
so happy for him."
Perhaps Teresa was just a tad happier than everbody else.
The couple met at a bowling tournament in Korea in 1995 -
surprise! - and immediately struck up a friendship. By the
late 1990s, they were much more than friends. Eventually, Patrick proposed, and Teresa had to deal with the culture shock not only over
the idea of marrying an American, but of living in Michigan.
That lasted a year. "It didn't work out," she said, "because
it was so cold. I mean, you couldn't turn the heater up enough
to offset the Michigan winters." Patrick eventually decided to move
to Mexico Ciyt with his shivering wife. She probably had more
than a little say in the matter, but Patrick is noew in love not only
with his wife, but with the country. "Most people think Mexico City
is very hot," says Teresa, "but not where we live high in the
mountains. Yes, there are days when it gets fairly hot, but
the climate (is such) that we don't need air conditioning,
even in summer." While Patrick is the big star in the Healey family, Teresa rates as one of her country's leading bowling lights. She
has been national champion several times, and has represented
her country in the World Cup, in several FIQ competitions and in
various international events such as the British Open, where she
finished third in 1997. Teresa'a game, however, pales in
comparison to what she's seen on the PBA Tour. She marvels at
how much the players know about equipment and lane conditions, etc.,
the part of the game where Patrick helps her most. On the
other hand, turnabout is fair play, and she gives Patrick help
when he needs it. "Especially with the mental game," she says.
Call it a team effort.
