Castaways
« on: June 30, 2003, 07:16:36 PM »
I don't know how many people are aware of this situation, but it appears that Castaways Hotel, Casino & Bowling Center is in trouble.  I wonder what impact this will have on the various tournaments that take place there.

Here is a link to the PBA website for more information:

I was there in January for the PBA Pro/Am an had  great time.  It would be a shame to see it close. I was just talking to my friends who also went to the Pro/Am and told them there was nothing on tap with the PBA there for the 203-2004 dates.  Now I know why.

The Castaways has been on shaky ground for a long time.  This is no real surprise to many that live here.  First it loses the High Rollers (the people that play in the casinos) and gets the PBA (people that don't spend that much time in the casino).  Now they lost the PBA.  It's a rudderless ship and although they have tried to do good things with the hotel/casino, it has been a downhill slide.  It also doesn't help that it's in a nasty neighborhood.

It's a shame.  I've bowled well there and appreciate its place in history, but like I said, it isn't a big surprise.

Yeah, Showboat has been in some rough waters lately, and my most recent visit showed that they were even shakier waters. They closed the bingo hall to make it into the event center for roller derby and boxing events... but not that whole 4 days I was there did I hear any kind of construction going on.

The place isn't the best venue for a bowling event either. Give me a break, I spend all my money somewhere else in las vegas anyways. They need to find a way for the tournament bowlers, especially, to spend money at castaways. Also, they need to improove  the buffet... man it's horrible.
