Question about buying a new ball on here..
« on: January 18, 2011, 02:05:15 AM »
I was wanting to know some opinions on an issue from all the good ballreviews peeps.

If you purchased a NIB ball from a user on here and when you received the ball, the original box was not there.

I know its just a piece of cardboard but it does have the box specs on it which to me is pretty important to have.

Is this something that you would be upset with if you were not told ahead of time the original box would not be included?

Eric,

Yes it did happen and I posted this to see what other users here on BR thought about this issue.

I never said it was dishonest or that I was upset. I just wanted to get some opinions, thats all. Of course, I then get jumped on by some users and thats what I should have expected.. Oh well..

I've had it happen twice.  The balls had little stickers on them with the specs, but were in different boxes.  I assumed they were display balls.  Honestly, at the quantities and prices the guy had listed, I didn't care.  I'm not sure if I would have felt differently if it was from somebody that just had 1 or 2 balls listed.

Realistically, I don't know if the ball specs match the sticker.....of course you don't know if they match what is on the box either.

But, when you see somebody listing a NIB, you just assume it is in original box.  I've seen people list new balls without original box.

So when you go to the pro shop, and you buy the ball that is on display and they do not have the box. Do you refuse to accept the ball?

I sell all NIB with their respective boxes, but I do not see the logic on why the box is so important if you have the correct specs for the ball.

You should have gotten the original box, but since you didn't (whether by mistake or on purpose), why don't you call or PM the seller and ask for a photo of the side of the box with the specs?  If he says he doesn't have it, the discussion can progress further, up to returning the ball at his expense, if it's that important to you.  --  JohnP

I agree with this 100%. If a ball is sold as NIB that means New In Box, the original box. Not only does it provide the original specs, if for some reason the buyer decides not to use it, it affects resale value. I would have no problem buying a ball without the original box, but I would want to know that before I make the purchase.

If it is described as NIB, then it should be New In its Original box in my opinion. To state as being NIB and not having the box seems to be dishonest.

This has happened to me a couple of times.  Bought some balls NIB and they did not come in the original boxes.  Some of them I was advised of this in advance, so no big deal, I made the decision to buy it and had the balls drilled up soon. I personally would like to know if the NIB is not in the original box because some balls I put away for future use.  I buy a lot of balls used and if I find one that I really like, then I might buy a NIB one to use later if/when something happens to the older used one or if I want to try a different layout on it.

There are a lot of people selling older NIB balls here or on ebay, so having the original box with the specs on it would be useful, especially if they do not have a ball scale.

NIB without the box is false advertising...

Should be listed as "Undrilled"
