Look at the power players that muscle the swing and have pure releases. It is really about relaxing your hand and in order to do that, you obviously need to have a good fit that allows the ball to stay on your hand while it is relaxed. This is very evident with the trend toward using less reverse. I used to use a tremendous amount of reverse back in the old days (pre-reactives), anywhere from 1/2" - 5/8". I have shortened my span a little, but I now use 1/8" reverse and could probably use 0 with a slight span adjustment. I took the gradual route cutting back 1/8" at a time over six months to get where I am now. It took a while to get used too, but your release will be much cleaner and more consistent if you just learn to relax your hand.
Just my two cents...
