While it may sound nice on the surface, there's a not so nice reality. Number one, the dye doesn't come off. Of anything. It will stay on balls, towels, shirts, and I'm really curious what it does to a lane machine. Two, if they made it any darker, the bowlers would have trouble seeing the boards, arrows, and dots, and so I'm guessing the idea was out there, but they struck a happy medium. Third, there really isn't much oil on the lanes at all, even heavy volume patterns. It doesn't take much at all, so it may already be extremely dark. Lastly, where the oil is and where it isn't should be very apparent by your ball reaction. You will also be able to sense reaction changes before you will be able to see the changes. Once you're able to see the changes, the lanes would be incredibly beat up or tracked out, so overall I think it's one of those things that really isn't as interesting, helpful, or useful as it's been made out to be.
