Team Issues...your thoughts?
« on: May 09, 2007, 01:30:08 AM »
Ok first off a little background:
5 man team Handicap off of 220
We have the following Averages: 189-186-130-178-209
The 2 Averages in the 180's were on our team last year and the 130 and the 178 joined our team this year because of 2 guys unable to bowl because of College classes. We have won the league the last 2 years. but here is the problem:
A guy from the first year who averages around 200 wants to come back because it will fit into his schedule since his internship is now over. The 130 Average bowler insists he "finds a line" but he doesn't hit the same mark at all the entire game, doesn't listen to the help we try to give him and can obviously see. He also is the one who has bowled a few games i the 80-90 range but never has had a game over 150!...needless to say how do we ask this guy to leave our team ecspecially because we won this year (when he did shoot an average of 110 in rolloffs). Are we wrong wanting him to leave the team for the better bowler who was initially on our team?

I would say yes, provided you didn't tell the 130 avg. player that he would/could be replaced if an original member decided to come back.

Honestly I never talked to this kid in my life before bowling, he went to high school with us and saw him out one night after our summer league and he said he was a "bowler" apparently don't listen to someone when they say they are good.
I never hang out with this kid now even after league is over or during the week

The Captain has the right to throw someone off the team.
So thats a option.
-----------------------------
Team Captain’s Authority
Rule 104a. Part 3.
Be responsible for the conduct and attendance of the team in league play. It is within the captain’s
authority to permanently remove any player from the team. If requested, good and sufficient reason
for the removal must be furnished to the board. [CAQ #155]

Team Captain Authority
155. Can a captain remove a member of the team during the season? Rule 104a, Item 3 states, it is within
the captain’s authority to remove any player permanently from a team. However, the captain must furnish good
and sufficient reason upon appeal to the league’s board.
If players are removed, and are not dismissed under Rule 115a, they are eligible to receive a prorated share
of the team prize money at the end of the season, based on the number of games bowled and the amount of prize
money won by the team. In addition, the bowlers receive any special prizes for which they have qualified.
156. Can a captain choose not to ask the same team members back next season? Yes. Rule 104b states,
all teams are automatically disbanded at the end of the league schedule. A team captain is not obligated to invite
the same individuals back to be team members next season.
--------------------------------
Now for "good and sufficient reason" that you'd have to work out.

I might go with that since the other guy was on the team before, so you gave him first say for the spot or something like that.

That the other team mates want him off and since he wont listen to the advice of the captainor or team members. So he's a determent to the team and want him off.

If the season is over then just tell him that you already have a team for next season. If the season is still going I would add the original bowler and make a 6 man team a different person sits out each week to make it fair for all the bowlers.

Talk to your team coordinator.  You'll be able to tell him secretly that you wish to put the 200 average bowler back on, providing good reasons to back up your statement such as how it fits into his schedule nicely, and then next year when you start, he will be on another team, and probably won't ask anything about it.  If he does, tell him that "it's just the way it worked out this year," or something along the liens of that.  I don't know the 130 average player's personality or your relationship with him, so I guess you may have to figure out a lot by yourself.  I don't think that you're wrong to replace him because the 200 average bowler was originally on your team, and one must do what is best for the team I suppose...

I think it also depends on what kind of chemistry the team has with this person on it, winning or not!
