pba experience
« on: October 31, 2006, 08:15:18 AM »
Did anyone happen to catch the news that was buried in the USBC Masters telecast that was tied to the USBC "out of the cage" ad in Bowlers Journal. http://www.bowl.com/sportbowling/articleView.aspx?i=12311&f=12  The announcement was a new addition to the USBC sport condition program adding the 5 PBA lane conditions to the current sport program.  This allows some specific lane conditions that are as much as a 3:1 ratio to conform to sport bowling standards.  Will this type of marketting plan enhance the sport program by appealling to bowlers who want the challenge of PBA conditions?  Will this be more of a summer niche league format or will many of the 35 week leagues want to take this on?  Thoughts?

I'd drive an hour one way to join this league!  But... I'm a pessimist, so it probably won't work.  Just like the current sport leagues, the majority won't have the sac to drop a few pins off their avg. to try and learn something.  Hopefully I'm wrong and the USBC will promote the heck out of this and get at least one full league of it in every house.

I don't understand why you would want an inflated average, but then again I don't get the point of handicap leagues either.

Of course, I am bowling in a cake shot handicap league because I am not good enough yet.  But from what see, there aren't a lot of scratch leagues around now for whatever reason.  It's good to know that if I can get to that level there is something like the PBA Experience that will hopefully be picking up steam.

Speaking of which, is the PBA Experience only for the really good scratch bowlers or could a lower average bowler like myself learn a lot on a tough shot as well?  I would bowl on it as soon as it is available for the experience, but I don't want to look like a complete idiot you know?

The other half of the equation is coaching. If you can pair coaching with programs like this, you will then have a sport prepared to thrive. I am hoping to run a PBA Experience "instructional" league, possibly this summer. That will give me an opportunity to work with a lot of my students on the patterns that i'm trying to get them ready for. It would be great to get all of the local professionals involved in the education of the average bowler. If you felt like you were learning as you went, the lower average wouldnt affect you as much.

Sweet!  I hope I can find something like this around here.  I am sure your league will be really successful.  I am not sure if I will find this kind of thing around where I live.  As far as I have been able to find, the only sport leagues are youth leagues except for one tiny sport league that is way too far away for me to get to after work.

I am hoping since this will have the PBA name behind it, it should be a lot more marketable or should at least get some discussion going.
