Middle finger problems
« on: May 22, 2007, 06:14:52 AM »
I don't have very flexible fingers.  Right now my pitches are both somewhere in the 1/2" reverse range, though I'm not sure on the exact numbers.  Lately I've been experiencing a little pain on the right side of my middle finger by the nail when I bowl.  I also noticed that the skin there is kind of peeling away from the nail.  Any ideas on what could be causing this or what a fix would be?  Is my lateral pitch wrong, perhaps?  I do have a tendency to come around the side of the ball far too soon.  Thanks!

Mr. Lebowski, this is Bill Salnicker with the Southern Cal Bowling League, and I just got a, an informal report, that a member of your team, uh, Walter Sobchak, drew a firearm during league play. If this is true of course, it contravenes a number of the league's by-laws, and article 27 of the league...

I invented America.

Proud member of the Track Legion, though I'm seeing other companies on the side.

Sounds like you need to decrease the left pitch on your MF, and possibly increase the reverse.  That may also require increasing the right pitch on your RF to avoid having the holes come together.  I'm assuming you are right handed.  Show the problem to your driller and let him make a recommendation.  --  JohnP

Have you been bowling more lately?  Are the grips brand new or quite old?  Have you recently bowled more than usual after a longer-than-usual break (say between the end of fall/winter leagues and the start of summer leagues)?

It could be as simple as dry skin or a small blister under a callous, especially if the latter question (above) is true and you come around the ball.  Certainly have your pitches checked, but don't just redrill all your stuff out of hand.
