BTM Ratings

Just wondering if anyone knows what BTM's ratings under the sport section are based off of.  Is it just me or are some balls actually better on sport patterns than they make them out to be?

I think they use a medium to medium-heavy oil sport shot. They have said specifically a few times that xxx ball would be good on a lighter oil sport shot than they use.

Also the ball's design and dynamics together with  your release could require a specific set of drillings (pin and MB positions) for any of several sport patterns. I think they're too many variables to be more specific.

I'll admit a few years ago I thought their ratings were way off.  But, lately I've found they are much better b/c they have standardized their patterns with the Kegel patterns.

I'll agree with the above poster that layout plays a big role on how good the ball will handle sport shots.

With the Sport rating, you really have to read the write-up for any caveats.  That number is based on the reaction on the fresh pattern with a layout that is better suited to house conditions, so just looking at the number can be deceptive.
