Is bowling coming or going?

What are your opinions on where bowling is going? Is it getting too expensive for people to do? Has it lost people's interest? Do leagues last to long for people to enjoy? What are your ideas?

Hopefully bowling will adapt to changes in society and lifestyles. Here in the Northeast, they want league contracts of 32-36 weeks. Figure in skipping a week or two for holidays that may fall on bowling nites, the leagues may start in late August and not finish until into May. Too long of a season or "weekly commitment". Another trend is that many leagues are going to 3 or 4 man team format, rather than the traditional 5 man. I wish I could find more of those leagues
Lastly, something newer is our 50 & over classic league (now in it's 4th year). 4 to a pair, bowl individual for points against each other on the pair (different 4 on a pair each week) for yearly position points, then top 16 weekly overall go to match play for weekly monies.
Can't wait til January 2005....I can join that league

It is wherever we say it is...

I've preached on this topic before in this forum.  I once read a great quote from a famous person...

"Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't...you are right."

Bowling is way down from past years, but it is far from gone.  League bowling is down, whereas open bowling is up in most markets.  The industry has new rules, and those who don't play by them are hurtin right now.

It's a good question Ben.  Ask the question again every year, and see how the answers change.  I have made it my job to get people to change their answers to such a question, as most are quite negative.  Keep your eyes open for good things are about to happen!!!
