Title: PBA Pro-Am
Post by: jmc1972 on March 03, 2017, 12:29:37 PM
Has anyone bowled in a pro-am?  I have one tomorrow and am wondering what to pack in my arsenal. I have the following:

No Rules Solid
IQ Tour 30
Bad Intentions Hybrid
Teal Rhino Pro
Widow Spare

Thanks!!!

How many are you able to tote with you? Me personally, I take 6 balls to sport shot tournaments. Id rather have it and not need it. than need it and not have it.

5 strike ball options and my urethane which doubles as my spare shootin ball.

Experiences through the years have included everything from bowling on a freshly laid house shot to a freshly laid tournament shot to chopped up practice block leftovers...

Don't be the guy that walks into a pro-am with 6 or 8 balls.

The problem with choosing something to eliminate from...
No Rules Solid
IQ Tour 30
Bad Intentions Hybrid
Teal Rhino Pro
Widow Spare

Is that obviously the spare ball stays but everything is so different in my opinion that 5 balls is within reason.

Maybe choose BI Hybrid or NR Solid but I feel it's still a stretch.

I guess it depends on how serious you are about it. Take the spare ball and your two favorites for a nice 3 ball bag and call it a day. Treat it like league and just enjoy bowling with the Pros.

Aren't those things usually No-Tap?

That the impression I already get from these big a$$ six ball bags some people roll in with.

Post of the year right here. If you need 6-8 balls for 3 games, which if I'm not mistaken, Pro-Ams are 9 pin no tap correct? I can't think of a more dork thing to pull off than showing up with 6-8 balls.

Yes, that is an apt description of what it feels like hauling one of them around.

Some Pro-Ams may be 9 pin no tap, but most of the ones I have participated in were a free strike for the 3rd frame, 6the frame and 9th frame all the other frame are on the bowler.

There is a Pro-Am I bowl in every year at my home center.  It is 9-pin no-tap on the usual house shot.  It is a strike fest for the pros and high scoring for the rest of us.  I take my usual 4 balls and bowl like it is a standard league night and just try to have fun.

Most of the fun is watching the younger bowlers that come in with their freshly drilled, brand new arsenals and custom embroidered bowling jerseys and try to show off for the pros (who really couldn't care less about you once they leave your pair.)  They end up messing with their own heads and bowl very poorly.  The temper on some of these youngsters is epic (and very entertaining!)

Pro-ams are meant to be fun, and to give everyday bowlers the chance to cross lanes with regional and national pros.  Just go and have a good time!

Took my IQ 30, shoes, and a towel with me. Oil pattern was chewed up Cheetah. It was a great time, a lot of fun. I got to do a trick shot with EJ Tackett - 6-7-10 split. He took out the 7 and I took the 6-10. Almost took his Motiv Sniper out because I throw a lot harder.

BTW, has anyone heard anything about the new Sniper?  Can't find anything on it. It has Orange lettering and logo. Not getting one, just curious on the specs.....now that I said I'm not getting one I'm sure I will be getting one lol.

Orange letters and logo? Sounds like the original Sniper

That's what I thought but he said it was a new ball that's not been released yet.

Tackett's spare ball looks IDENTICAL to the original Sniper.  The original Sniper was made of plastic and had some issues with cracking around the logo.  Because of the cracking issues, Motiv moved to a urethane Sniper to provide a more durable ball.  Some feel the newer Sniper hooks too much, enough where a bowler can't throw a normal shot at the ten and not have the ball hook by.  (this is why most bowlers get a spare ball).

I am guessing Tackett likes his and has kept it around.  I just don't see Motiv going back down the plastic spare ball route anytime soon.  If they did make a new plastic Sniper, my guess it would be a different color.  Don't want to cause confusion.
