What's up guys? I don't know that any of you know who I am, but I used to be on here a lottt when I was younger. I bowled a lot on leagues and competition, but unfortunately my elbow went out and I had to have surgery. Well, after about 5-6 years of not even touching a ball, I picked it back up because I just missed it too bad. The 3 balls I currently have are 15#, and they're all Brunswick. Intense Inferno, Chrome Yellow Powergroove, and a Nemesis. All box finish.

Some about me:
I used to be somewhere between a Tweener and a Cranker. Fairly high revs, 16-18mph ball speed. Generally played somewhat deep. At this point with the condition of my arm, I'm not really a stroker, but I don't have nearly the revs I used to. I'm going to be getting a 14# ball this time around, again due to the injury. I can throw a 15# but it's pretty uncomfortable for me.  I'm looking for something that is going to be pretty versatile, but it'll mainly be used on a THS as I'm not bowling competitively or anything. I'd like something with good power in the mid and back end. I love skid/snap balls but realistically, for how I bowl now and since it's going to basically be the only ball I'll be using, I need something a little more versatile. I'm open to any suggestions. I've had Brunswick, Storm, and Visionary, so I'm not biased. Thanks ahead of time!

P.s. my main reason for asking a noob question like this is just that I've been out of it so long, I have no idea what is going on with all these new coverstocks and cores. This stuff is getting wild.

I'd suggest something fairly mild until you get your game back and adjusted to 14 lbs.  I've drilled a lot of Columbia Freeze's and everyone has liked them.  I haven't drilled one of the new Ebonite Cyclone's yet, but the core and coverstock combination looks great.  You should be able to get either of these for less than $150 drilled to get you started.  --  JohnP

Kid,

Glad to see you're back. Guess you're not a kid anymore, huh? :P

You might want to check out the Hooks from 900 Global. Nice smooth rolling entry level reactive, with a great weightblock. They have them in both sanded and pearl, and you could probably score one for $110

All of the above mentioned are good choices to start out.  I would stick with symmetrical cores until you get used to your game again.  In addition to the choices mentioned, you could also look at something like a Track 503C, Roto Grip Nomad Dagger or Rising Star (the Rising Star can actually be strong for a medium-light oil ball), or a Storm 2Fast/2Furious.  All of these balls use proven cores/covers that should help you get back into the game.

Once you feel comfortable with your game and you have it where you want it, then look to build an arsenal based around what you have.  Best advice before that though- work with a pro shop driller that you can trust and have them spend time with you on the lane before you drill.  This way, they can work with you on proper layouts that match what you want to do.  Also, the right ball can be matched to how you throw.

Good luck and let us know how you do.

If you were looking for a good 1 - 2 punch in the Brunswick line, I would suggest the Karma Solid and Karma Pearl. These 2 balls compliment each other and would be good for typical house shots.  You can use the Solid first and when the lanes break down, you can switch to the Pearl to get a little more length.  Both have a lightbulb symetric core and are similar to the Danger Zone series from back in the 90s.  If the Karma Solid has too much of a skid snap reaction, you can remove the factory polish and put a 2000 or 4000 surface on the ball.  Welcome back to the game, and good luck this year.

Nice to see you back in the game.
I really like the Track line. 300C and 300T, 607ASE, too.
Good luck bowling, and enjoy.
