Questions for the 2 handers
« on: May 22, 2011, 06:33:53 AM »
Basically I have 2  questions:
1: Left hand position... it seems like most the successful 2  handers position the left hand almost in-front of the ball, rather than  directly on top of it... or something like 2-3 inches (finger tip grips  to left hand finger tips on ball) from the grips, is this true?
2:  Elbow, is it really necessary to be bent much at all, especially in the  downswing to release? I look at the release of Osku, Belmo, and other successful 2 handers and notice that there is little to no elbow  bend before release (not ala vintage Rob Smith), but rather the release is almost all  wrist... is this correct?

To answer question 1, it depends on the ball roll.  I believe if they want to be more up the back, they position the hand in front.  If they want to get around it more and add axis rotation, they get a little more on the side.  That is the same concept I use at times as well.  At other times, if I want to stay more up the back, I spread the index finger of my release hand farther out as to give the feeling more supporting the ball across my entire hand.

To answer question 2, as you get older, your range of motion and flexibility will diminish some so bending the elbow will help get the backswing higher in order to help create the ball speed to get the ball down the lane.  When you are younger like they are, the range of motion is there so no need to bend the elbow.  I used to be that way (no bent elbow) but now I am pushing 40 so the elbow has a slight bend to it. But my ball roll is still the same.  So to answer your question, it is not necessary until that range of motion starts to diminish.

Peace doesnt always have to be silent.
