Do I bowl too much???
« on: June 20, 2004, 06:20:42 AM »
I never realized until the other day, that I bowl just about every day. Plus when I bowl, I bowl at least 3 games. Just as an example, I work at the bowling alley, the other day when I went to work, I went like half an hour early, bowled 3 games, then bowled 5 after. Do I bowl too much? I can really see an improvement, lately I've been averaging around 180, but do I bowling too much?

I do the same thing.  I work at a bowling alley and have bowled as much as 10-15 games afterwards just practicing on my timing, swing, etc.  As long as you are using it to better yourself at bowling and not doing things that can screw up your timing and stuff then the more you practice the better you get.  I say keep going.

Practice NEVER hurt anyone. Most bowlers, if they had the opportunity, would bowl ALL DAY long! You'll know when you are bowling TOO MUCH!

Theres no such thing as bowling too much, as long as you don't hurt your hand or your not tired and still have money in your walet. Then go right ahead bowl your arm off! hehe.

I used to bowl around 100 games a week in college.
30-40 of those would be with our coach.
It was really useful then.

I would caution you that if your game is in a good place, keep practicing. If you're having some sort of mechanical problem, it might be better to get a coach and fix the problem before you practice too much and practice the problem right into your main game's muscle memory.

The other caution I would give you is to not overdo it so you burn out. For me, that's almost impossible, but I came close last year. Working full time, bowling 4 nights a week, traveling on Friday, and tournaments every weekend. No time home with the family, too much bowling alley food... Yuk.

I think it is great for you, and you can never do too much. Just make sure you dont keep going when you dont feel like going. And that you make yourself go, because more than likley that will get you tired of it after awhile. That happened to me this year. I was bowling about 60 games a week for the whole season last year, and saw HUGE improvements. When this season started I was so burnt out on practicing, I never would go. Now I am back to bowling that much because I got two big tournaments coming up, which are Junior World Team Challenge, and Junior Gold. Just be careful about all that.

When I was in college I was bowling 50-60 games a week between practice, conference/tournament matches and leagues. Nowadays I fit in bowling twice a week (one league, once practice) and usually during the fall average 10 games a week. If I had more free time I would double that output. You can never bowl enough to get better at this game.

I wish i could bowl a lot. But it costs too much, i do shoot 7-15 games a week without tournaments and when theres tournaments its more. Hopefully ill get a job at the center here and ill bowl A LOT more.
