PBA World Championship TV show
« on: March 14, 2022, 11:08:23 AM »
I will try to do this without giving any spoilers.

I thought yesterday’s PBA world championship show was one of the best TV finals in sometime.

There were plenty of strikes and one of the best display’s of spare shooting I’ve seen in quite a while.

In the Championship match Prather showed great skill. One using a different ball on each lane but mostly by using a 3 step approach in front of the ball return on the right lane and a 5 step delivery on the left lane. To be able to vary your approach that much and maintain your form and accuracy was remarkable in my mind.

Granted the match ended up in a tie with the opponent using a different method to attack the lanes and each was probably correct in their method it was a great match.

PS. I’m not a fan of the best count roll off to settle ties. I prefer the ninth and tenth frame tie breaker.

Definitely a very memorable show, with a lot of clutch shots and drama. Really enjoyed watching it.

Also agree on the tie,I think the sudden death one shot is more to do with time available for live shows than preferred method, but could be completely wrong.

Anyone have any opinions watching new purple hammers vs Pitch Black and Blue Tank last night?  My thought is that purple hammer is still best urethane out there.

PH is def more forgiving to my eye. I think the pitch black requires much more manipulation to get to strike.

Agree.  Sherman throws a clean 216 with 10 balls in the pocket.  Opponents were making 3 bad shots per game and staying with him.

Softness issue was a strawman.  Purple hammers have a core shell matchup that makes them better regardless of hardness.  It would have been interesting to see Sherman throw a UC3.

For me, the difference between the Purple Hammer and Pitch Black is night and day. The Pitch Black is much more of a traditional urethane look. It digs in very quickly, and the move downlane is extremely smooth and predictable.

The Purple Hammer is even stronger in regard to the dig into the oil, but somehow it still manages to shape down the lane. It's almost as if it hooks twice. Honestly, I've never seen a urethane ball do what the Purple Hammer does. If you have enough head oil, you can actually open up your angles a bit with the Purple Hammer until the backends get sloppy.

That was exactly the problem that one bowler had during the Cheetah telecast from last night. With all of that urethane going down the lane, the backends were bound to soften up. One bowler moved back more to the outside, squared up, and used some of that push oil as hold. Another tried slow-hooking the Purple, and it just wasn't consistent enough. It proves that for as good as the Purple Hammer is, even IT has its limits.

As for the Blue Tank, I've only seen it thrown on TV a couple of times now. It's looked okay at times, but I haven't seen enough of it to truly make an informed statement about it. I'm guessing that's Motiv's attempt at a Purple Hammer, but, again, I'll have to see more of them go down the lane before I can say much else.

I didn't see enough of the blue tank to form any opinion either.  When I saw Sherman's first strike with the pitch black I didn't think he had a chance with that ball .  total hook stop the last 10 feet to barely roll out a weak 10.  What he did last night reminded me of Earl throwing that orange Ebonite and managing to beat the yellow dots 45 years ago.  Sherman doesn't have a chance if the big guy from Denver makes one less bad shot or picks up the 10 pin even though Sherman pounded the pocket both games.
